Community Highlights: Meet Nicole Spisak of Richual

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Spisak.

Hi Nicole, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Richual started after I realized I was building something that didn’t actually feel like me.

A few years ago, I purchased a women’s clothing boutique because I knew I wanted to own a business. It taught me so much, but over time I realized I wasn’t passionate about it in the way I thought I’d be. I eventually made the decision to sell it and start over.

Around that same time, I started taking Pilates. What began as a workout quickly became a ritual I genuinely looked forward to. It gave me confidence, structure, and an hour that was just for me. The more time I spent in studio, the more I noticed that grip socks felt like an afterthought. They were functional, but they didn’t feel elevated or exciting.

That was the light bulb moment.

I started Richual to create grip socks that people were genuinely excited to wear. I wanted them to feel like a small luxury that made showing up for yourself a little more fun. Over the past year, Richual has grown from an idea into a brand that’s partnered with Pilates studios across the country, created custom socks for studios and events, and built a community around the idea that wellness doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Sometimes it starts with something as simple as putting on a great pair of socks and showing up for yourself.

It’s only been a year, but it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and it feels like we’re just getting started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. While people see the finished product, they don’t always see everything that goes into getting it there.

I started Richual with no background in product development or manufacturing, so I had to learn everything from the ground up. That meant figuring out how to source manufacturers, navigate inventory management, design products, build a website, understand margins, forecast demand, and market a brand, often through trial and error. There were plenty of mistakes along the way, but each one taught me something that made the business stronger.

One of the biggest lessons has been learning to wear every hat. In the beginning, you’re the designer, customer service representative, photographer, marketer, shipping department, and CEO all at once. It can be overwhelming, but it’s also incredibly rewarding because every milestone feels earned.

Looking back, I’m grateful it wasn’t a smooth road. Building Richual has pushed me to learn skills I never imagined I’d have, and those challenges have shaped both the business and me as a founder.

As you know, we’re big fans of Richual. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Richual creates elevated grip socks for people who see movement as more than just a workout. We believe the little rituals in your day deserve just as much intention as the big milestones, and something as simple as putting on a great pair of socks can make you more excited to show up for yourself.

While our collections are designed for everyday Pilates lovers, we’ve also become known for our custom grip socks. We partner with Pilates studios, fitness brands, retreats, corporate events, and bachelorette groups to create socks that feel thoughtful, on-brand, and actually wearable long after the event is over. Seeing our designs become part of someone else’s community has been one of the most rewarding parts of growing the business.

What sets Richual apart is that we’re building more than a product. We’re building a lifestyle brand rooted in wellness, connection, and finding joy in the everyday. We care just as much about how our customers feel when they wear our socks as we do about how they perform in class.

The thing I’m most proud of is the community that’s formed around Richual in just one year. Watching people tag us in their Pilates classes, seeing studios choose us for custom collaborations, and hearing that our socks have become someone’s favorite pair never gets old. My hope is that when people think of Richual, they don’t just think of grip socks. They think of a brand that makes their daily rituals feel a little more special.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve always believed you create your own luck.

Of course, there are moments of good timing or unexpected opportunities, but I don’t think those happen in a vacuum. Most of the “lucky” moments in my business have come after reaching out to one more studio, introducing myself to someone new, or saying yes to an opportunity that felt a little outside my comfort zone.

I’ve been incredibly fortunate to meet amazing people who’ve believed in Richual, but those relationships started because I put myself out there. The more I build this business, the more I realize that luck is often the result of consistency, curiosity, and being willing to hear “no” a few times before you get a “yes.”

If there’s one thing I hope other entrepreneurs take away, it’s that you don’t have to wait for the perfect opportunity. Create it. Send the email. Ask the question. Introduce yourself. You never know which small action will end up changing everything.
