Community Highlights: Meet Mckenna Brooks of The Social Story Lab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mckenna Brooks

Hi McKenna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved to Cincinnati 14 years ago, after growing up in Denver, moving to San Francisco for work after college, to Austin for graduate school, and Minneapolis for work. My husband grew up in Cincinnati and when we had children, and decided work could be here, we wanted to settle in our home here!

I’ve worked at several large marketing companies here in Cincinnati before purchasing The Scout Guide Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky in 2018 and becoming an entrepreneur. I’ve also started a Marketing Consultancy, The Social Story Lab, which helps clients tell compelling stories in their marketing across all channels – digital, print and more.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been really smooth, and I have been so fortunate to have met some of the most talented and supportive people to help me grow along the way.

The biggest challenge with growing in a marketing career, however, is how to balance life at home with a growing family. I was fortunate to be able to move companies to those which allowed more flexibility with schedules, as well as grow income based on what time in a week I was able to commit to my work vs. my home and family.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Social Story Lab?
I own and manage a content creation studio that focuses on building compelling stories in visual and text that help companies grow. We build websites, manage content for social media channels and build brands from the ground up.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see my industry growing as I focus on small and medium sized businesses who don’t necessarily have the budgets for big marketing agencies, but need the support from experienced professionals who know how to build their brands and make them relevant to their consumers.
