Community Highlights: Meet Mallory Munnerlyn of Zyier Matters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Munnerlyn

Mallory, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a mother to two amazing boys Zyier 14 and Karter 8. They are my everything, my motivation besides God. November 22, 2023 my oldest son passed away at the age of 13. I would later learn not only the cause but that his symptoms had been altered to accommodate the diagnosis they provided at his final visit. After taking him multiple times to his primary care physician , I decided to take him to an ER at another facility after he started complaining of a headache that he said felt like someone was kicking him in his head. Prior to this he was experiencing other symptoms that had stopped. When we were “ greeted” by the nurse and he asked the reason for coming. After I explain to him how we had gone to the previous hospital he states what do you expect us to do. They perform test and some information I will keep private out of respect for my son. But fast forward I’m told he has a white blood count of 34,000 and I ask what that means and he states there’s an infection but he doesn’t know what but he’s sending a referral to another hospital. My son is discharged and provided some medication and he passed away that night in his sleep. I get a call from the corner asking if my son complained of a headache and I tell him yes that’s why we went to the hospital that day. He then tells me there is no mention of this in the hospital visit summary for his last ER visit. That prompted me to hurry and order his medical records and when I finally received them and began reading, my heart dropped. Not only was there no mention of my sons headache, and other symptoms he had that day but they lied. They provided false symptoms to match what illness they “believed” he had. Not only that but what they diagnosed my son with wouldn’t be something you can mistaken the symptoms would have to be the false ones they put in my sons visit summary. I was blessed to have multiple doctors offer to view my sons records and every single one said there is no way my son should have ever been discharged. I was told if they couldn’t handle him because he was a child they should have had him transported by squad because with a white blood count that high he could have coded at any time. This has been a living nightmare. I have two boys my now angel and an 8 year old. My younger son is just so hurt by the loss of his brother. I walk around everyday with a heartache, missing my baby. He was so handsome, talented, sweet, helpful I could go on.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Its been hard because you would think something so blatantly evil would addressed and people held accountable but nope. Everyday I think about how this doctor goes to work everyday, and he did this. Patients are really in danger and don’t know. I think about how many doctors I took my son too in total and none of them figured this out. One attorney told me they refer to Nationwide Primary Care as “docs in a box” because they don’t build real relationships with the children and they are constantly rotated around.

We’ve been impressed with Zyier Matters, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started this nonprofit in honor of my son and the mission is to bring awareness to medical malpractice and negligence while promoting good health. I understand completely doctors can’t save everyone, and they are human unfortunately errors will happen and dying is apart of life. However, when poor medical care is given intentionally, how dare you. No one forced you in the position your in and just because your patients aren’t your loved ones, they are someones loved one. Someones child, parent, sibling etc. I understand some patients can be real jerks and no one should have to deal with being disrespected but in the end of the day you are the professional.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was born with a celft palet so of course being teased was apart of my everyday life. My home life was rough as well so my child hood unfortunately is filled with more sadness then happiness.
