Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Schmidt.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Back in 2003, I graduated high school and enlisted into the Navy, where I spent the next 12 years traveling the world and enjoying life. While enlisted, I was always the command fitness leader and instructor, and one of my favorite tools to use was resistance bands because they were easy to pack and get a good workout I from anywhere. So, one day one of the sailors asked me where I got my bands from, and I just replayed sports authority or the local sporting good stores, and they replied I should sell them as I’m always using them. So that gave me the idea to look into where to get these made and purchase some. Then over time 2-3 years, I decided to take it more serious and expand and get more products and make it a real business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s had its ups and downs: it took about 6 years to be able to do this full-time. The first 6 years, I was either active-duty military yet or working other jobs and doing x bands at night and weekends. Then the next big hurdle was covid and the lack of inventory and increase shipping costs to both import and ship to customers.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
We’ve been selling different resistance bands and workout accessories since 2010. We try and make all our products high quality as a lot of professionals use them every day and need them to not break and hold up. like our original 12″ mini booty bands are made 4x thicker than normal so they don’t roll or slide. I also invented other workout accessories to go with the bands or just special bands no one else has like our dead bands and glutezilla band.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Making a quality product that people can trust using and promote it to their friends and become repeat customers.
Pricing:
- Most bands are between 10-40$
