Community Highlights: Meet Kaylah Morris of Kaylah M. Morris Styling Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylah Morris.

Hi Kaylah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Kaylah Morris and I’m a Fashion Stylist and Personal Shopper located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to do something related to fashion, I’ve always LOVED fashion! I used to want to be a designer-still do, just not at the moment. I still have sketches from the third grade. But I did an internship in college and I tried styling this girl for a photoshoot and fell in love with it! A summer after that, my model friend Tyla Regan reached out to me and asked me to style her and a group of models for a photoshoot. Shoutout to her because she always included me in anything style related and majority of my first few clients, I met through her. From there, I began building my portfolio as a Photoshoot Stylist. I have done everything on a set from a model’s hair to being the photographer. I then decided to take a break from styling shoots and started doing Image Consulting, Personal Styling, and Personal Shopping. I found a new interest in speaking to people regularly about their clothes and personal style choices so I decided to create a website and open my books to everyone.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road? What’s that? (laughs) but no. I’ve had a lot of hiccups along the way but I’ve always bounced back. One of the biggest problems I had, in the beginning, was structure. I didn’t have a planner, didn’t have a website, no money, and no idea what I was doing. All I knew was my love for fashion. A client would book me for “Photoshoot Styling” when I was really just shopping for them. Shoutout to Mya Walton, who was my most loyal client at that time. That was a time when I didn’t know the difference between a lot of the services I was providing. I was also getting more clients than I could handle at that time. I would have 5 models booked for the same photoshoot with 5 different looks. My Style Kit was also non-existent. I would carry an emergency sewing kit from Walmart with me, but that’s because I taught myself everything I know. I have learned so much through trial and error and have done a complete 180 when it comes to servicing clients.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Kaylah M. Morris Styling Services?
I started Kaylah M. Morris Styling Services in July 2020 during the pandemic, so business has changed drastically. I now offer a variety of styling services that range from Closet Cleaning to Merchandising Services. I have also expanded since and now offer Virtual Styling Services. I would say my specialty is Personal Styling. This is something that is second nature to me and I have always been asked for style advice, even by strangers at the mall. I would say I am most known for Photoshoot Styling and Personal Shopping. While these are both services I love, I decided to take a break from photoshoots because my creative vision can sometimes be restricted by the client during these services. I think something that sets me apart from others is that I really am gifted when it comes to Style and Fashion. I am truly passionate about both and I have successfully entered multiple lanes in these fields. I can sew, sketch, design, embroider, style, creative direct, and tailor; and these are just the avenues I’ve tried. And this is not at all to brag, but I truly believe this is my “purpose” and I know it’s my passion. I would say I’m most proud of being able to get paid to do something I would do for free and truly enjoy. Kaylah M. Morris Styling Services is currently working on expanding into different areas and offering more services. At the moment, the most popular service is the Style Membership Service, which allows each client to embark on their Style Journey and up to 100% OFF on some services (that’s right-FREE). I am currently taking Style Memberships for the months of October and November.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I grew up here, so I’m biased lol. What I love about this city is the diversity and culture. There is not one “style-type” for the city. Not everyone wears the same thing. You can find different styles throughout the city. I also like that trends tend to easily flow through the city. I see a lot of style influences from down south, up north, and the west-coast. I also love that there are so many hidden gems to shop at in the city. Some just off the top of my head are Pink Mafia Fashion Boutique, Femmé Fatale Fashion House, Thirtytew, and the J’Marie Shoe Collection. While Cincinnati is an up-and-coming city, I feel like it only has a limit of growth potential. This city isn’t my “forever home.” What I don’t like nor understand is how they’re still doing construction on the same part of I-75. It drives me nuts (laughs) but I don’t like that there aren’t many people who knows what stylists are or what they do and I’m hoping to change that. Everyone needs a professional in their closet!
