Today we’d like to introduce you to Julian Crosson-Hill.
Hi Julian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been involved in helping guide and facilitate gay men’s spirituality for about 25 years. During that time, I worked in software engineering but always had a desire to make my spiritual work my main living. I experimented at doing this in different ways including becoming a yoga instructor and teaching workshops. In 2020, I obtained my first life coaching certification and launched my coaching practice as a side hustle to my day job. In 2022 I obtained my Associate Certified Coach credential from the International Coaching Federation. After being laid off from my job in technology twice in two years, I decided it was time to make this my full time work.
Like many new coaches, I started out with a vague message and ideal client and over the years I’ve followed my intuition and heart to slowly refine my coaching niche. Today, I help gay men over 50 overcome feeling small and invisible by embracing unapologetic authenticity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it was difficult but it also hasn’t been smooth. I think the biggest challenge is getting really clear on who you are, what your gifts are, and how you can create something based on that which is valuable to other people. For me, there was a lot of doubt and fear initially. I started out with a vague and broad ideal client which resulted in a watered down message that didn’t powerfully speak to anyone. This was largely driven by fear that a niche like gay men or gay spirituality would be too narrow and I would never have enough clients. As I became more confident as a coach and spiritual guide, I realized that this was a faulty narrative that was holding me back. Once I embraced narrowing who I worked with to those that I could help the most, my business really transformed.
We’ve been impressed with The Julian Crosson-Hill, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a spiritual life coach and human design coach who helps gay men over 50 stop shrinking and become radically authentic. My 6 phase Emergence Method coaching framework helps take my clients through a process of examining their beliefs about aging, reclaiming parts of who they are that previously felt unsafe to express, realigning their life with their new truths and discoveries, connecting with other like minded-souls, expressing from their authentic truth, and reflecting on the journey as a preparation for the next cycle of emergence. I offer 1:1 coaching, human design sessions, and periodic retreats.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success based on the impact I’ve had in the world. I also come back to that saying, “No one will remember you for what you did. They’ll remember you for how you made them feel.” If I make people feel empowered, happy, and ready to bring their gifts to the world, I’m successful.
