Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Bey.
Hi Isaiah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Isaiah Bey, I am 22 years old, and I Am a young entrepreneur born and raised in Louisville, Ky. It wasn’t the easiest with my grandfather and father raising my brother, sister, and I. We all had to learn at an early age how to get it on our own. Growing up, we weren’t involved in too many sports or extracurricular activities simply because we couldn’t afford them. But at 14, I started boxing, which is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while.
My coach at the time felt for me and gave me an opportunity to train for free. Years later, I traveled often competing regionally and even nationally at times. I truly saw a future in it. As I got older, there would be so much going on at home (financially and even mentally) that caused me to take breaks.
I had my last fight around this time last year (November 2021). I wanted to see if my heart would be in it the same way it was when I was younger, it wasn’t. I didn’t win the fight, but honestly I believe it was from me not being present, mentally. Throughout the camp, I felt like I was one foot in and one foot out. Debating on if I see myself boxing long-term.
During that time, I was also in the beginning stages of A New Dream. This is something I’ve been wanting to do outside of boxing since I was younger in high school. My sister and I began this clothing brand together about two years ago. She drew up the logo for my birthday, and I remember telling her that’s all I wanted! We officially dropped this past April for the spring, but for two years, we studied crazy about how we wanted to go about it.
I feel like that kind of put us ahead of the curb when it came to our drops, but at the same time hurt us. We would expect these drops to go perfect, but what is perfect? Nothing is truly perfect no matter how well you plan. The biggest lesson I’m learning throughout this whole journey is you’re going to do most of the learning on the way to your destination, not prior. Sometimes it’s best to just take the risk.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Of course not. Life has never been easy for me or my siblings, but I’m grateful for every struggle I’ve faced. I know for a fact, I wouldn’t be the man I Am today without them. I would say one of the biggest struggles I’ve faced all my life has been myself. I’m very introverted and I don’t come from much. I’ve always been the type to not ask for help because I was taught at an early age to not seek any.
But as I mature, I’m learning to be more receptive to help when it is offered or even asking when I need it. Help can bring you a long way, but doing everything by yourself can only take you so far. I’ve had to learn that the hard way in many situations. I read something once that said “the best introverts are extroverts” and vice versa. So I try to keep that in the back of my mind as I network because you never know who can put you in the position to change your life.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A New Dream has been in the works for over two years, but we finally dropped in April 2022. We’ve had multiple collections, with the fall being our most recent, and an upcoming winter collection. Our goal is to inspire with encouragement and positivity worldwide through timeless fashion.
A New Dream was built off a transitional phase of my life. I felt stuck and didn’t know what path to take. I was in the process of finding myself, where I wanted to be, and how I was going to get there. A New Dream is for those who have been through any type of struggle in their lives. It’s when your persistence and hard work meet each other to live the life you’ve always wanted to live.
