Community Highlights: Meet Garrison Glover of Glover Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrison Glover.

Hi Garrison, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was a child, I took up filmmaking as a hobby making my own mini skits on the family camcorder, or uploading my old Roblox screen recording videos on YouTube. Gradually, as I got older, my interest in the hobby died down and I picked up architecture in middle school. Though I decided to major in it in college for my first semester at Ohio State, I realized quickly that architecture wasn’t for me. I was at a crossroads: do I change my major and start over, or do I stick with something I knew wouldn’t give me a good jumping off point after graduation? I chose the former and changed my major to Film, going back to my roots in a way.

My interest in documentary filmmaking led me to producing related projects during my senior year courses. Mostly I produced and directed sports related documentaries and a music docu-series I convinced my friends back home to be a part of. After a while of uploading my projects to Instagram, a friend of mine noticed one of my projects and asked if I produced commercials.

Though I’d never done anything commercially at that point, I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to try it out. With me making my first promo video for his car detailing business, I was able to hit the ground running professionally.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Its had its up and downs for sure. It’s always been a juggle between improving my craft as a creative, and as a businessman. I always knew I wanted to start a business but wanted the time to experiment with different types of niche’s to improve my style and see what really stuck with me. What came with that was praise for my work, amazing connections and partners, but also stressful projects and, facing negative habits, and having a lack of direction for where I wanted to take my company. I wouldn’t have it either way cause I believe that’s an apart of the journey being a professional creative.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Glover Media?

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Im huge on psychology or filmmaking/photography based podcasts.

Psychology in Seattle podcast is my go to concerning general human behavior, rare behavioral phenomenons and character studies on pop culture figures. I find them very educational and entertaining with the topics they cover.

Uncensored’s a film/video focused podcast made my Brandon Washington; he essentially goes over general film industry and business topics, and gives advice regarding sales pipelines for different niches, client nightmare scenarios, use of AI during project development, and opinion pieces on camera company news.

If there’s a book I’d recommend for just doing my best in life, it’d be “7 habits of Highly Effective People”. I think it’s fair in the type scenarios it uses when giving life advice and building positive habits for yourself. In the middle of my life being chaotic both personally and professionally, what I’ve gotten from this book has helped ease out some negative habits/thoughts I’d have.
