Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Gaughan.
Hi Edward, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
The story started with my first bar “Sloopy’s” on 11th and high in 1994. From there we expanded to add “The Spot Bar”, “Zigs”, “Four Kegs Bar and Grill”, “I Bar”, “The O Patio and Pub” and now “The O on Lane” and “The O Patio and Pub” was an institution for the OSU student and was lost due to Ohio State buying and developing all the land around 15th and High.
After 4 years of having outdoor gameday parties on Lane Ave, we finally were able to get the inside of the building completed and opened. We are once again looking to be the center of the OSU community as we are located 5 minutes walk to “The Shoe” and “The Shott” our specialty is woodfired pizza.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were delays with covid and permits due to covid. Then came all the construction and supply chain issues that everyone had to deal with. Staffing was a huge obstacle as we tried to build a kitchen and front-of-the-house team.
We’ve been impressed with The O on Lane, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a gathering place for all things Buckeye, The O on Lane is a full-service restaurant bar located at 352 West Lane Ave. We cater to OSU students, staff, and faculty as well as anyone attending an event at Ohio State. We have a full menu with a focus on woodfired pizza. We are proud to be at the center for all OSU activities and to offer a buckeye experience from once you enter the door until you leave.
Our brand comes from 28 years of being part of the OSU community and employing over 1oo’s of students during that time. The pizza is the best in the city. Our dough is homemade and aged 24-36 to allow the flavors to develop. They are topped with the freshest and highest quality ingredients available. Every pie is hand-tossed before and baked at over 650 degrees in the Fiero Forni oven that we imported from Italy.
