Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Valencia Moses of Vibrant Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Valencia Moses.

Hi Dr. Moses, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Vibrant Coaching started in September of 2019 as a result of a series of events that motivated me to found the company to ultimately help people become the best version of themselves. I had a lightbulb moment while sitting in a free class held by a non-profit and I knew it was time to take the leap of faith to start my own coaching company. I was in an internship with the non-profit and told another intern about my newfound passion for CliftonStrengths. We created an event that was so successful, I was confident about signing up to go through Gallup’s training course. I wanted to support others on their journey of self-awareness and personal leadership to contribute to the changes they long to see. I realized that I had years of experience motivating people and facilitating their resilience. The bank of Mom sponsored me to become a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach as a way to have the backing of a research organization and access to tools to help me better support my clients on their success journey. Sometimes we need validation, even permission to fully be ourselves due to the challenges we have faced. I believe thriving in life is for every person and everyone can be their best selves on purpose for a purpose! Growth and transformation in the lives of clients is what fuels the business partnerships I have with non-profits, organizations, colleges, and universities. I love how coaching enables my clients to gain new perspectives, experience increased clarity, creativity, confidence, and hope!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My initial clients came almost exclusively from the non-profit sector as a result of connections I had before it hit me: how was I going to connect with clients beyond my non-profit circle? The idea of creating leads that would generate sales was not within my comfort zone, so I reached out for help from organizations that provided business coaching. Several individuals pushed me to think about what my processes and pricing would be. These conversations put next steps on my radar and helped me to set the realistic goal of giving myself up to three years to learn to decide if being an entrepreneur was an investment I wanted to keep on making. I learned more about how to network, even as an introvert, and be willing to partner with people to help me increase my visibility. Early on, the idea of having a website was overwhelming. I got help by starting on social media. I decided to utilize LinkedIn more and found out about other platforms that would increase the odds of people finding out about the kind of coaching I could provide. With time, people I did not know personally or were not friends of friends, began reaching out. I know that having a business profile through Google helped as well. I now have a website and am glad I did not get rid of it because I just started with a new client recently who found me just by searching on the Internet. I guess the biggest obstacle or challenge for me was figuring out where to start. I now tell myself quite often to “start by starting,” knowing I can trust myself to learn, grow, and make things better as I go!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Vibrant Coaching?
Vibrant Coaching provides encouraging accountability for individuals or teams to move from where they are to where they would like to be personally, academically, and/or professionally. We provide customized coaching packages that can include the CliftonStrengths Assessment, more commonly known as StrengthsFinder, to help clients increase their confidence, obtain success, navigate uncertainty, and overcome obstacles. When we know who we are, how we shine, and what we bring to the table, we can be the best version of ourselves and achieve success on our own terms.

I love putting my strengths to work to help people experience transformation in their personal and professional lives. When I have a hard day, I reach out to friends just so I can hear about their day which helps me feel better!

This should have been a clue long ago that coaching was a calling for me.

What sets me apart is that I genuinely care about my clients and often send them inspiration in between sessions that connects to the goals that have emerged during our sessions. I help people pursue more of what brings them joy and my clients consistently share how hopeful they feel about the future because they said yes to Vibrant Coaching.

I am extra pleased that people keep commenting on how the name of my business fits with the energy I bring over Zoom, over the phone, and in person. When people sign up for their free consultation, they feel like they have won a free coaching session. I am on a mission to do my part in helping more people have access to coaching because it truly makes a difference.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I gave myself permission to learn as I go and aim for progress over perfection. Be kind to yourself and give yourself grace to grow. I think it is important for those just starting out to invest the time to think through the why behind what you want to do. Whatever you value or matters to you is what sustains us along the way as we want to see our dreams become reality.

Dreams are like gardens; they require tending. Patience really helps, too, because we often do not sow and reap in the same season. Weeds are common and may come in several varieties such as doubt, discouragement, or defeats. For those just starting out, I want to encourage you to be intentional and strategic. What you plant impacts what you will harvest. No one plants seeds for oranges and expects apples!

What you water is what will grow. Where your attention goes is what will get attended to, yet there is so much competing for our attention. We are most effective when we choose to be selective. Having a growth mindset helps us to see obstacles as opportunities in disguise. Simply put, great gardens don’t just happen. Great gardens are the result of transitioning from thoughts and intention to action. I am not a gardener, but I love watching shows about the intentionality of what to plant when, how, and where. The intentionality of it all intrigues me and the time I have invested in being intentional about my schedule and the people I want to coach has been time well worth it.
