Community Highlights: Meet Devin Moore of Catalyst Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Moore.

Devin Moore

Hi Devin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my journey as a DJ at the University of Dayton while studying Industrial Engineering. DJing for me was birthed out of survival as I needed a way to make extra money to put myself through school. My classmate Kevin Richardson taught me how to use virtual DJ, and I saved up money from my internship to purchase my first set of speakers.

In 2009 my roommate let me know he was getting ready propose to his girlfriend and ask if I would DJ his wedding. That was the natural progression of transitioning for being a club DJ to a wedding DJ.

During the week I am a Sales Engineer that sells metallic powders and capital equipment and on weekends I rock weddings.

In 2016 my business started to take off, so I started to train my son who is now my assistant/business partner.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say Imposter Syndrome is the biggest struggle in my journey. By causing self-doubt, fear of failure, and a persistent belief that we aren’t qualified for success, it stopped me from taking my business to the next level. I’ve seen this hinder the decision-making and risk-taking abilities of a lot of talented people. We [Entrepreneurs] can overcome Imposter Syndrome by acknowledging their achievements, seeking support from mentors and peers, setting realistic goals, and reframing negative thoughts. Building self-confidence through small successes and recognizing that everyone experiences self-doubt can also be beneficial. It’s important to remember, “Success is not about avoiding self-doubt; it’s about embracing it, learning from it, and using it as a catalyst for growth.”

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
