Community Highlights: Meet CiAndre Johnson-Lollar of Limitless Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to CiAndre Johnson-Lollar.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a personal trainer. I started while I was in college playing basketball at Wayne College in Orrville, Ohio. After school and practice, I would meet my fiancé, sister, and mother to a gym where I could bring guests to train them as practice. These three were my first “clients”. This is where the spark for my passion began, And the idea of helping others, and leaving my mark on the fitness industry arose.

My mother’s progress is what sparked a huge flame inside of me that continues to grow today. There was one machine in particular that she had a very difficult time with. As time passed, and we practiced at it she got stronger and was eventually able to do the machine with added resistance with no problem. I could even poke her stomach while she flexed her abdomen and feel her abs starting to become stronger, and more firm. Watching her improve physically and mentally really showed me that, I could impact people’s lives for the better, and also my community by making it a healthier one. Experiencing that with my mother is a huge part to why I am where I am today 3 years later.

Eventually, I begged my uncle enough times for him to hire me as his personal trainer. He became my very first paying client. I would drive to his house and train him there. From there my paying client list grew from 1 to 3. I was hired my aunt and uncle (her husband). I would also drive to their house and train them, and sometimes their kids as well.

Everything was going great until the worst happened. My mother, the one who gave me so much support, and motivation passed away summer of 2019. I wanted to give up on everything I was working towards and run away, but with the support of my fiancé and family, I was able to pull myself together and keep pushing forward. Later that year I finished my certification and business registration. I quit my job in November 2019 to train full-time. This was a very difficult decision and a very risky one at that, but I’m thankful that I made that life-changing decision.

My client list grew and that allowed me to gain the confidence needed to take a leap of faith and sign a lease to my first training studio. I signed my lease March 2020. I was excited but nervous as well. 2 weeks after I signed my lease, the world was shut down by the COVID-19 Pandemic. This was another huge blow to my business and the clarity of my future as an entrepreneur. I even looked for jobs on indeed.com. I had a very important conversation with myself and told myself that my mission, and what my business stands for was much bigger than me. I believed I had to see it through no matter what. I stopped the job search and put all of my focus into keeping my business alive. I started virtual training and creating workout programs online.

Once gyms opened back up, my client list doubled twice. At the end of 2020 with my business doing pretty good, I knew that if I could keep my business alive through one of the worst financial times in our country’s history, and as a new PT, that I was on to something special. In 2021 my client list continued to grow, and my income doubled from 2020. Late 2021 I took another huge leap of faith. I invested almost 100% of my free time, and almost 100% of my money to renovate my new location. The process started September 2021 and was a very exciting, but stressful process. We finished the huge project in Jan 2022. We are currently continuing to grow on social media, and help individuals reach their fitness goals and change their lives for the better.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth at all. Like I said before losing my mother, in the beginning, was a huge setback. It also served as motivation for me to strive for my goals to make her proud, and to create the life that I want due to the realization that tomorrow isn’t promised. Signing the lease to my first location 2 weeks before COVID-19 caused a worldwide shutdown. The financial struggles of trying to earn enough to cover all of my personal expenses, my business’s expenses, and then some.

Trying to keep clients motivated on their long fitness journey. Spent nearly 100% of my cash to finish the renovations for my new location. This was very stressful because it was a huge risk for me. I have a fiancé and a small child to provide for so spending nearly all that I had at the time was very nerve-racking, and caused a lot of stress and anxiety.
