My name is Camaya Wiley, and I am the owner of Camaya Made It: A Family Brand of Soul Secrets. I began my journey working alongside my mother at Soul Secrets, a southern cuisine restaurant that serves comfort foods like catfish, fried chicken, mac and cheese, and sweet potatoes. Many people know that Soul Secrets was born as a way for the two of us to bond and get through the depressive episodes I had as a teenager. I played a key role in managing the restaurant and assisting with various tasks. Over time, many customers asked for additional traditional southern comfort meals that we couldn’t offer due to space and demand constraints. That’s when Camaya Made It was born.
Staying true to my southern roots, I now offer meal prep, desserts, and cold-pressed juices. My meal prep service includes 5 meals for $80, with a new menu each week, catering to busy individuals who need convenient, home-cooked meals after a long day. I also serve families with elderly parents who may not have the time or ability to cook, offering them a taste of home. I provide both a traditional menu and a vegetarian menu for those seeking healthier options. My cold-pressed juices and cake slices make the perfect add-ons to any meal, offering a delightful finish. With Camaya Made It, I reach people who want healthier comfort food or simply crave meals beyond what’s available at the restaurant.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey so far has been pretty much smooth. In January, I was awarded the Findlay Kitchen Meal Prep Scholarship, which has been incredibly helpful. I also recently joined the Mortar Program, a valuable opportunity that will take my business to the next level. Both the scholarship and program are crucial in helping me transition from being part of Soul Secrets to building my own independent entity. They will also provide me with a deeper understanding of how to effectively run my business. As an entrepreneur, I’ve encountered my fair share of challenges—like slow months and low sales—but I know that by staying focused and overcoming these obstacles, I will continue to succeed in the long run.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?

It’s the journey of navigating both the highs and lows, all while staying true to the vision. It’s about what I’m willing to do, the challenges I’m willing to face, to make my business thrive. I know there will be setbacks and that I can’t please everyone, but as long as I remain consistent and committed to delivering quality, I believe great things are ahead for my business.
