Today we’d like to introduce you to Afi Elizabeth Ntontolo.
Hi Afi Elizabeth, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and spent my childhood moving between several countries before eventually immigrating to the United States with my family. My father is a pastor, my mother is a nurse, and watching their faith, resilience, and work ethic shaped who I am today. Those early experiences taught me how to adapt to change, appreciate different cultures, and find confidence in who I am no matter where I was.
Growing up, I’ve always loved fashion and beauty. My mom had an incredible eye for detail, and she believed that taking care of yourself and presenting yourself well mattered. Whether it was making sure our clothes were pressed, our hair was done, or that we carried ourselves with confidence, she taught me that your appearance is often the first way you communicate with the world. That lesson stayed with me long before I realized it would become my career.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a minor in French from Wright State University and later earned my MBA from Ohio University. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in communications, marketing, corporate communications, and content creation. Every role reinforced how powerful communication is not just through words, but through the way people present themselves.
Eventually, I realized I wanted to combine everything I loved: communication, fashion, branding, and helping people build confidence. That’s how Afi Elizabeth Image Consulting was born. My mission is to help women align their outward image with who they truly are. I believe style isn’t about chasing trends it’s about showing up with confidence, intention, and authenticity.
Alongside image consulting, I’ve also been building my presence as a content creator, sharing practical style advice, confidence tips, and faith-based encouragement across social media. My goal has never been to simply tell people what to wear. It’s to help people become the best version of themselves from the inside out.
Looking back, every chapter from immigrating to the U.S., to navigating different cultures, to building a career in communications, and ultimately launching my own business has prepared me for where I am today. Every experience has strengthened my belief that confidence begins within, and when you know who you are, the way you present yourself becomes an authentic extension of that.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t change the journey because every challenge has shaped the person and entrepreneur I am today.
One of my biggest challenges has been learning to trust the timing of my own path. Like many entrepreneurs, I didn’t start with a perfect blueprint. I built my business while working full-time in communications and marketing, often spending evenings and weekends developing my brand, creating content, and serving clients. There were seasons where progress felt slow, and I questioned whether I was moving in the right direction.
I’ve also experienced setbacks in my corporate career, including unexpectedly losing a job. At the time, it felt discouraging, but it also reminded me that our identity shouldn’t be tied to a job title. It pushed me to invest even more intentionally in the business and purpose God had placed on my heart while continuing to pursue new career opportunities.
Another challenge has been overcoming perfectionism. For a long time, I felt like everything had to be perfect before I could put myself out there. Whether it was launching a service, posting content, or starting something new, I would overthink every detail. Eventually, I realized that growth comes from consistency, not perfection.
Building a personal brand also requires resilience. You have to believe in your vision long before everyone else sees it. There are days when the results don’t match the effort, but I’ve learned to celebrate small wins and keep showing up.
Through every challenge, my faith has been my foundation. It has taught me to remain patient, stay disciplined, and trust that every season even the difficult ones is preparing me for what’s next. Looking back, I can honestly say that the obstacles didn’t stop me; they refined me.
As you know, we’re big fans of Afi Elizabeth Image Consulting. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Afi Elizabeth Image Consulting was founded on the belief that style is more than clothing it’s communication. Before launching my business, I built my career in communications, marketing, and corporate communications, where I learned that people begin forming impressions long before a conversation ever starts. I wanted to combine my passion for communication, fashion, and personal development to help people intentionally communicate who they are through their image.
I specialize in personal styling, wardrobe consulting, and image consulting for women who want their outward appearance to reflect who they truly are and the life they’re building. Whether someone is preparing for a promotion, starting a business, entering a new season of life, or simply rebuilding their confidence, I help them create a wardrobe that aligns with their goals, lifestyle, and identity.
What sets my business apart is that I don’t believe style starts in the closet it starts with clarity. Before discussing clothing, I take the time to understand each client’s personality, career, lifestyle, values, and aspirations. My goal isn’t to create a wardrobe based on trends. It’s to create a wardrobe that feels authentic, timeless, functional, and uniquely theirs.
My background in communications gives me a different perspective on image consulting. I view personal style as a form of nonverbal communication. Every outfit tells a story, and I help my clients ensure that story reflects the confidence, professionalism, and authenticity they want the world to see.
Beyond one-on-one consulting, I’m passionate about educating and inspiring people through digital content. Across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms, I share practical style advice, confidence tips, personal branding insights, and faith-centered encouragement. My hope is that whether someone becomes a client or simply watches one of my videos, they leave believing in themselves a little more than they did before.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building a brand rooted in authenticity, excellence, and purpose. I never wanted Afi Elizabeth Image Consulting to be just another styling business. I wanted it to become a trusted resource where people learn that confidence isn’t something you buy it’s something you cultivate from within. Clothing simply becomes the outward expression of that inner confidence.
As the business continues to grow, my vision is to expand beyond one-on-one consulting into corporate image consulting, educational workshops, speaking engagements, digital courses, books, and resources that empower people around the world. I believe image has the power to open doors, create opportunities, and transform the way people see themselves. My mission is to help others use it intentionally while remaining true to who they are.
What makes you happy?
Happiness, to me, is living with purpose and knowing that I’m becoming the woman God created me to be. I find joy in growth whether that’s learning something new, earning my MBA, building my business, creating content, or helping someone feel more confident in themselves. Seeing a client stand a little taller after discovering their personal style or receiving a message from someone who was encouraged by one of my videos reminds me why I do what I do.
Outside of work, I genuinely enjoy the simple things. I love spending time with my family, serving at church, traveling, discovering great coffee shops, and finding beauty in everyday moments. Fashion has always been a creative outlet for me, so I also love putting together outfits that help me express who I am.
More than anything, my faith is what grounds me. It reminds me that success isn’t just about achievements it’s about using the gifts God has given me to serve others with excellence, integrity, and love. When I know I’m living in alignment with that purpose, that’s when I feel the happiest.
