Today we’d like to introduce you to Zara Rojas.
Hi Zara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I pretty much became a mother! As an adult, I would always sit back and remember the times my father would always carry around a camcorder or those disposable cameras lol, and always either taking pics or videos of my sisters and I. So, becoming a parent myself, I always wanted to make sure I took as many photos as possible and store them for memories. It’s always such bittersweet moment and feeling to be able to look back! I feel like it’s some sort of time machine y’know? I believe we are able to look back at that exact moment and remember our feelings, and get a reminder to slow down a bit, because, well, life sometimes seems to fly by us… right? Last year in April of 2021, my husband surprised me with my first professional camera! He was probably tired of having to buy me new phones due to not enough storage because of photos of course lol. Anyways, I felt intimidated by it honestly. I had no idea where to start or even begin with! I didn’t touch it for a little even lol afraid I would break it. Then I started getting in my head (what majority of us do…right?) like I didn’t take no classes or courses, I have so much to learn before this and that and this and that. Sounds familiar? Well, with the help and encouragement from friends and family offering to help me through this newfound journey of self-taught photography, I told myself to just have fun and do what I love to do. Now here I am a little over a year now, with bookings I would’ve never imagine in the first place. Being open and transparent with all my clients seemed to have worked out very well, I love to talk and converse and just simply have fun! I love the in-between photos, the ones where its laughs and giggles and be sure to include those in my packages and it seems to give my clients a nice good laugh and smile. To me, this is where my passion comes into play, because I want nothing more than for my clients to be able to feel their photos, the good feelings, we all need em 🙂
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Gosh no! Being a mother of 4, finances for sure get in the way! Time can get in the way. Life can get in the way, and then with these recent events of inflation, I know it’s been a bit hard for lots of us!
Trying to get into different genres of photography… cough cough… boudoir… it has definitely been hard for me to target that area, but I am not giving up! So, stay tuned world!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Right now, I am specializing in maternity & Family/couple photoshoots! Whether that would be indoor or outdoor. I love the varieties of metro parks Columbus has to offer! I have an eye for a beautiful backdrop, whether that’s natural or in-studio! I LOVE love, and I’m sucha sucker for it in all shapes or form! So, with that being said, I make it my duty that you can feel the same way, through my photos. 🙂
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Hmm, I honestly haven’t thought that far!!! I am really just enjoying my time right now and at the pace it is going. I would love to have my own space one day and make it my own studio, that would be pretty neat and fun!
