Check Out Yung Mosh’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yung Mosh.

Yung Mosh

Hi Yung, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved to Finneytown in 2007 and met the two guys that would become my best friends. Max and Alex Guerrero.

We would skip school to play Guitar Hero and pretend to be rockstars, dreaming of what our lives could be.

We’d go to every warped tour we could together; we got to see so many of our favorite artists and completely immersed ourselves in metal culture.

Metal wasn’t the only music we listened to. Hip-hop was really becoming popular when we were growing up; the playlists we would listen to would have bands like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, and System of a Down, but also had artists like Soulja Boy, Ludacris, Waka Flocka, and Chief Keef. The band Attila was a modern hip hop/metal fusion that gave us the last drop of inspiration we needed to follow that path in a heavy way.

We had several bands with almost a revolving door of members, playing small-town local shows and battles of the bands. We finally found guitarist Wesley Davis, and we knew from day 1 that he’d be a permanent addition.

The only missing piece was a bassist. We continued building our band, “The World I Knew.” We had built a following in town and started putting together “weekend warrior” tours across our region. We’d leave town on Thursday to play in Columbus, play Chicago Friday, Southern Wisconsin Saturday, and drive back home Sunday just in time for work on Monday. We did that every weekend for several years. We nailed some great opportunities like playing Inkcarceration in Mansfield two years in a row (2017 &18), and I got to be a part of the heavy metal choir in the video game “Doom Eternal.”

Which brings us to 2020. We had just found our permanent bassist Jimmy Clifton and had played 2 shows with him before the pandemic hit. Our “weekend warrior” lifestyle came to a screeching halt.

We spent lots of time writing and working on our next evolution of our TrapMetal style. One day I get a call from a man named David Dickens and his partner AJ channer, looking to be our managers. They had heard The World I Knew on a podcast and thought we really had something special. After several phone calls, they referred us to Richard Wicander and Robby Joyner in Texas, and we went down to record with them.

There we created our newest iteration of our sound. They were exactly the producers we needed to take our talents to the next level. They knew exactly what we were going for, and together we all developed what became our new evolution, “Yung Mo$h.”

We came back from the studio absolutely beaming with energy. Dave and AJ loved the tracks and started aggressively pitching them to record labels. After several offers and meetings, we finally got a shot to sign with OMG Records, Zoltan Bathory of Five Finger Death Punch’s label. We were ecstatic to even talk with him, let alone sign with him. So, we took the leap once again.

Since then, the record label has become Audio Pariah Ent, and we’ve toured with several bands like Dropout Kings, VRSTY, Outline In Color, ENOX, and RVNT. We’ve released 4 songs from our first EP, our biggest hit being “No Hate” featuring AJ Channer from the band Fire From the Gods. With the last song of our Debut EP dropping next month.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yeah, it definitely hasn’t been smooth. Being away from home, making enough money, not sleeping enough on the road, marketing the band, playing hit-or-miss shows. Any musician will tell you; the life comes with some struggles. But this is the life I love, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
It’s hard to say things about yourself, I am my own worst critic. The things I’ve heard from my peers and fans alike are things like my energy on stage, staying true to myself and making deep connections with both fans and other artists, my metal screams, and our bands ability to mix hip hop and metal in a new way.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the atmosphere downtown and around our sports teams. Who Dey! I really love the people of Cincinnati. I feel like we have a unique go-getter attitude. If you look into artists in our city, they are all workers and take their fate into their own hands. We are so close to being a music hub. Cincinnati is on the come up and I’m so proud to be from the city.
