Check Out Lauren Braswell and Toni Tipton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Braswell and Toni Tipton of Uzima Rejuvenation Station.

Lauren and Toni, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We are two mothers working full-time jobs, we understand the demands that are placed on us during our daily lives. We started Uzima as a place for women like us to be able to come and relax, rejuvenate, and reset. Each service was hand selected with women in mind and the focus of each wellness modality that we provide was based on issues that we felt most women struggle with such as stress, fatigue, vaginal health, weight, and body image. We are also using these holistic approaches as alternatives to modern medicine. It is becoming increasing evident the self-care is health care and more and more people believe that self-care is an important part of making healthier lifestyle choices and that self-care practices have an impact on their overall well-being.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road by any means. The main struggle that we have endured so far was just the time it took to turn around the space we are leasing. Lauren and I are Nurse Practitioners, so we were not familiar with the process of doing a buildout and working with contractors. The ups and downs of that process were by far our biggest obstacle. We had plans to open our doors in January of 2022 and did not open until late May of 2022. So, we had this idea that we were very excited about sharing with the world and a timeline that we wanted to do it in. It was very difficult to keep pushing back our opening date and maintaining interest from our potential clients. Even though our doors were not open, we still occupied a space that still had rent and overhead expenses attached to. There were times when we thought will would never open or will we be able to financially survive the buildout process. However, we endured, and it worked out in perfect timing. We have been open for a little over a month and are already exceeding our own expectations.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So Uzima is unique in so many ways. We are an all-female-led, black-owned organization, so we definitely pride ourselves on that. We do offer services that other companies offer such as IV hydration, Massage Therapy, and Vaginal Steaming but we are not aware of any place that combines all of those self-care services in one location. Because of this, people who visit us are able to take advantage of a number of services in one visit. It really makes us unique and emphasizes what we set out to do which is help people reset. We often have people who say they want to stay all day. They just love our space; it’s so calming and relaxing. Also, as Advanced Practice Nurses offering holistic care, we can still take advantage of traditional medical practices if necessary, such as laboratory services and Women’s Health care.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love our location in West Chester because it is a growing city and they really welcomed us to the neighborhood. Our particular location is right off of the highway, so it makes us accessible to the Greater Dayton area as well as Cincinnati. I love how our space is surrounded by other businesses in line with our model of care. The thing I probably like least about the city is the fact that no one really knows who we are, but that is okay. People are learning who we are more and more every day either by word of mouth or just being curious and walking in for a visit. So, tell a friend and allow Uzima to help you reset!
