Check Out Sophia Piercy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Piercy

Hi Sophia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I was always interested in fashion and creating different projects. I always loved coming up with new ideas and the thought of designing and making clothing/accessories was something that was always on my mind. Once COVID came around I figured it was a good time to get back into sewing and I haven’t stopped since. I’ve taught myself everything I know from watching sewing videos and trying out as many new techniques and projects as I can. I’ve been running my business for 4 years and I have been able to go full time for a little over a year now thanks to all of the orders and support from my customers/followers.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are definitely ups and downs with running a business but I really have been fortunate enough to have so much help and support through everything. Consistency is a very big factor in a successful business along with setting high goals/ standards for yourself. Starting a business and being your only employee can be challenging at times but it is the most rewarding feeling especially when you’re able to do something you love.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I named my brand Riptiderocco after my uncle and originally started making mostly mens clothing. I later branched into sewing clothing sets for women. I loved sewing and designing clothing but I knew I wanted to challenge myself more with complex designs in some way. This made me think about designing purses since it was something I had never done at the time. I do a lot of upcyling purse custom orders along with keep sake custom orders as well. Keep sake orders were always something I knew I really wanted to offer as an option for custom orders since my uncle is the reason for the brand it self.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I would define success by saying it is something that happens when you never give up on a goal. I feel if you’re consistent and driven with wanting to improve at something then every small step counts.
