Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Paris.
Hi Scott , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a career entertainer for 20 years. I have released over a dozen original albums, and traveled with bands across the country. For a few of those years, I was the house act for Wizard World Comic Con, a comic/fan convention that traveled the US. In 2024, I decided to write a book about the whole experience. That book released last month, entitled, “A Guitar Called Harry V and the Cover Band Conundrum.” It went to #1 on Amazon as an ebook the day it was released, under the Rock Music genre.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was always difficult balancing between the art I wanted to make and the kind of music work that made an income. As the leader of a cover band, I made enough to otherwise be a stay home dad as my children were growing up. As an original artist, I’ve barely made enough to buy decent coffee, let alone earn back what it took to make the art or try to pay bills. The conundrum of whether or not to consider that “success” is the premise of my book
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been known as a travelling singer of cover songs. My main group, The Imaginary Cookies, is turning 20 years old soon. Presently, although still performing live music, I’ve turned my sites to writing – having published my first book. The initial reactions to the book are amazing, and I have two new book ideas in the works. I was recently on a PBS/NPR podcast to talk about my career and the book’s release, and it was the highest downloaded episode they’ve had yet
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite books are the works of Kurt Vonnegut (Breakfast Of Champions, Sirens Of Titan) or Tom Robbins (Still Life With Woodpecker). I’ve modeled my storytelling style after theirs. Also, I love Anthony Bourdain’s “Kitchen Confidential,” as it told a very humble vantage point from a cook in the culinary field. That’s the approach I wanted for my tale about the music industry. Podcast wise, I hosted on called “99 Stories… And This Is One” that also dealt with the good and bad sides of being in a touring rock band
