Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Jewett.

Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It finally started when my husband showed me a photo of a cute little Honda Acty! We were hunting for a unit to build my cafe in, tossing back and forth: pull alongs, box trucks and vintage trailer conversions but not liking any of them. The Acty was perfect because it seamlessly blends both of our hobbies and skills. Doing it all after work and through weekends we had Kei Cup built in around 6 months time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle is helping people pronounce Kei (like the jeweler)! LOL! In seriousness though, it’s probably balancing home life and an active hobby. My husband has been very suportive, pushing me forward when I feel overwhelmed and my child has been all in excitement wanting to help with everything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
With Kei Cup we bring drinks drawing inspiration from around the world directly to you in a very cute form factor. We keep it all within a retro 1994 Honda Acty. The form allows me to work in any weather with very minimal set up and break down time.

I designed all the livery and created the images with my graphics design degree with some creative input from my husband. They were inspired by actual automotive buisinesses like brembo and eibach. The interior was layed out using my experiance working within other cafes with some slight concessions to space constraints. My husband did all the building for me with his various skills, drawing me in to burn the finishing touches! LOL!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t wait! Don’t let people telling you “it’s too risky”, “it’s too much work”, “it won’t pay you a lot” stop you from persuing something that makes you happy. Equally, don’t let the grind of “making all the money” turn your love into a job that kills that love.
