Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Skomski
Hi Rob, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all began in 2017, when I repurposed a bunch of pallets from my construction job, and made these amazing accent walls inside my pole barn. Pretty soon, I was getting a ton of compliments, and people thought it was barn wood. So, the pallet wood sales started happening, and customers from all over Ohio, and even out-of-state visitors came to purchase pallet wood for their homes and businesses. Now, I’ve had thousands of customers, and, in 2019, expanded into repurposing whiskey and wine barrels for home and business place functional decor. You can visit my home shop, if you are local, or stop into my downtown Medina store location, the LilyNicholas Shoppe. If you are further away, you can shop products via my website, or Etsy shop. The journey has been very fascinating so far, and I am looking forward to the future of repurposing and recycling wood and barrels!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So, business can be either hectic or slow, and it’s unpredictable. So managing funds can be a delicate balance sometimes.
Business expenses are another aspect. A lot of people don’t realize how many costs there are like heating costs in the winter, taxes, gas and vehicle maintenance, supplies and tools to get the jobs done. All of these, plus more, need to be kept up with in order to keep day-to-day operations going smoothly.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve always had an artistic and creative side. As a kid, people were impressed with how well I could draw. I also played the cello for many years in elementary all through middle school, and that came very naturally. Just having a mental vision of how things come together, and seeing the end result in my mind have always been a strong point for me.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I enjoy reading historical books centered around wars, my favorite being Indestructible, by John R. Bruning. My favorite fiction author is Clive Cussler.
