Check Out blucone’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to blucone. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Absolutely! About 4 years ago, Noah (producer), and Innes (bassist) met at a music school in Columbus. They quickly became friends and moved in together for about 3 years. In that time they continued going to school and started recording musical projects. In the summer of 2021, Innes and Noah met Ben (drummer) through a mutual friend. Ben lived in Dayton and would come up on the weekends to jam or record drums at Innes and Noah’s house. In August, the three of them moved in together, and started writing what would become the Blucone songs. A couple months later, Ben invited Sofi (lead singer) and Nick (guitarist) to join the band. Ben knew Sofi from highschool; they both sang in a capella groups and would compete against each other regularly (Sofi’s group always won). Nick and Ben played music together in college, so Ben already knew he would be a perfect fit. Our first performance was last May, and since then we’ve played numerous shows around Ohio and released a couple singles as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Surprisingly it has been a pretty smooth ride, with some exceptions. Distance between band members is our biggest crutch right now. One of us lives in Cincinnati, another in Dayton, and the rest of us are in Columbus. It makes communication challenging and it takes a lot longer to get projects done. People are always surprised when we tell them how much we practice together. It’s barely an hour every two weeks, and I promise that’s not a flex… One of our main goals this year is to spend more time in the studio. We have so many ideas and songs we want to record, just gotta find the time!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We’re known for our tight live performances and unique sound. It sounds cliché to say you have a “unique sound” but people who’ve heard us will back up that statement. Our first single “Torn” embodies the Blucone sound, and listeners can hear that within the first few seconds. It’s catchy, but not redundant—it feels like something new. We also play a few covers in our set that match our vibe. It’s always fun to take a song and remix it as if it were written by Blucone. Some of our favorite artists to cover are BENEE, Slenderbodies, and FELIVAND.

We are also very proud and appreciative of the personal connections we have made with our local community, and the response we have received from fans! Columbus has a lot of genuine love for local music, and it’s not something we take for granted. We want everyone to know that whether you’ve seen us live, or heard us on Spotify, or watched us on YouTube, that we appreciate all of you for checking us out.

We’re currently focused on writing a new single and creating merchandise! Very soon Blucone will be selling t-shirts, pins, and other items at shows, which is very exciting. Our next single is called “Reconvene” featuring Ebri Yahloe. We plan to release it in the next few months. Stay tuned and follow us on Instagram @bluconemusic for more updates

What does success mean to you?
Success to us means creating a consistent path of growth in our music and our “fame”. A perfect night for us would be: we just played a show, have another one coming up, and we gained some new followers. As time goes on, the Blucone sound will evolve. We’ll try new things in the studio and at live performances to keep us from going stale. It’s a constant flow of growth.

Success also means playing music full-time. As many artists know, it is not easy to support yourself financially on your content alone. We all have day jobs—each of us in the band—but THIS is the dream. This is what we all want, so we’re going to keep grinding. We know that one day Blucone will get there, because we’re already on the right track.

Thank you guys for your time, this was a fun interview! If you’d like to know more about us you can follow us on Instagram @bluconemusic and listen to our newest single, “Crazy” on music streaming platforms!
