Today we’d like to introduce you to McKenna Mullenax.
Hi McKenna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was 16, I downloaded TikTok and began posting videos. Over time a few videos of mine started gaining lots of views, and before I knew it I had over 70,000 followers. But the videos I was posting at the time were not the type of videos I liked creating. So, I started brand new, deleted my old account, and created a new one. This one was dedicated to Fashion. I had always loved fashion and I have always been a very creative person, but I had never taken fashion very seriously until the fall of 2020. I started taking pictures of my outfits, posting reels on Instagram, and even got to work with a huge clothing brand I was very fond of! It made my little girl’s dreams come true; I had loved fashion ever since I was 6 years old. Now at 20 years old, I teach girls how to do what I do. I sit down with girls over video chat and tell them all my tips and tricks on how to create a business using their social media and how to gain a following. It’s so much fun and I am so happy with where my life is heading.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of my biggest struggles was college. When I started college, I was a nursing major. Not to mention I graduated in 2020 which was when the pandemic was in full effect. My senior year of high school was gone in the blink of an eye. I thought nursing was the path for me. Ever since I was 13, I thought I wanted to be a pediatric nurse. But once I started college, I quickly learned maybe nursing wasn’t right for me. I had one semester at the University of Akron as a nursing major before I took a gap semester and just worked. Nursing school was hard, and it was even harder online. After a semester of work, I decided to go back to school and try nursing again. This time I went to Lorain County Community College. Once again, I did one semester of nursing. One of the classes I took at Lorain was an intro to Lorain class. Our professor gave us an assignment on a major and told us to talk about it, what school we would go to, classes we would take, the job itself, etc. I chose fashion because nursing was too basic. My professor ended up using mine as an example for the class and asked me “Is this really your backup?”. He was the professor who convinced me to switch majors. I’ve been so much happier since switching to fashion.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a content creator or Fashion Blogger. I mainly shoot pictures and videos of my outfits and share them on social media across many different platforms. I am currently learning how to sew so I can start designing my own clothes and maybe one day show off my designs to the world.
How do you define success?
Success to me is being happy with what you are doing and where you are going in your life. You’re doing your work for yourself and no one else. If it makes you happy then you’re doing it right
