Today we’d like to introduce you to Luzmary Tiru- Pagan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Yauco, Puerto Rico; since I was a little kid, I was surrounded by Art. As my mom used to paint for school projects, I watched her, amazed by what she could do; my interest in Art grew at a very young age. Starting with the basics, such as pencil, acrylic, and watercolors, I mainly painted portraits of people. By practicing constantly and getting better at it, I knew that this is what I wanted to do in life, not only because I was good at it but because it brought me joy.
Puerto Rico is a very cultural place, so in school, we would only paint things that represented our culture.
It wasn’t until I moved to Cleveland, Ohio, that I discovered my true self and passion, a more dark side of art. Growing up with a mother who listened to rock music, was into witchcraft, and had gothic vibes, I wasn’t very new to this arena. It was always on me. Having the freedom and the proper support, I started to express myself without boundaries.
Fast forward to this last couple of years, and feeling more comfortable and confident with my style, I moved from painting portraits of people to upcycling by putting objects together to mainly show the beautiful side of the dark, mystery, horror, and death.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I could say it hasn’t been bad; once I discovered what I’m truly good at and reached the right audience, I have had many opportunities that I’m very grateful for. I’m growing slowly, but I feel blessed by the fantastic support from my loved ones and the gothic and witchy community. It has been a journey full of growth and opportunity to develop new skills.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
LtpArt focuses on upcycled gothic/horror aesthetic art, giving a second life and creative value to old and unused objects. I’m incredibly proud of having the talent to reuse and put things together to create a piece of art that tells stories and represents the beauty that there’s in darkness and death, which is a natural part in our lives.
Something I feel it sets me apart is that LtpArt allows the viewer to find the meaning of the pieces as a way to establish a better connection with them.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Something I want to share is that discovering your talents and what makes you happy in life is very important. Art has brought an unexplainable joy and great meaning to my life. Getting comfortable with who you are and finding the right way to express your mind, no matter how different it seems, it truly is the key to happiness.
