Today we’d like to introduce you to Lolli Nicodemus.
Hi Lolli, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So, my story’s kind of wild! I grew up in a super strict religious environment, like deep in purity culture, kind of strict. Being the daughter of an “elder” meant I didn’t ask questions; I just did what I was told. Dating? Off-limits. Talking about sex? Absolutely not. For a long time, I thought that’s just how life was supposed to be.
But then I started realizing… wait a second, I have thoughts, curiosity, and feelings that deserve space too! So I left that world behind. But that was when I could really start unpacking everything I’d been taught about love, relationships, and my own body.
That’s what led me to create the Sex and the Cincy Podcast. It’s kind of my version of Carrie Bradshaw’s column, a fun space where I get to talk about dating, healing, self-love, and the hilariously awkward parts of figuring it all out. All with a perfect stranger and find relatability.
At the end of the day, I just want people to feel less alone. Whether they’re leaving behind purity culture, re-learning themselves, or just trying to survive the modern dating scene.
Giving everyone a platform to open up about their romantic lives.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, definitely not a smooth road, but I think that’s what makes the journey interesting, right?
Coming from such a strict background, there were a lot of deep-rooted feelings I had to work through.
There have absolutely been moments of doubt and growing pains. Especially talking openly about dating, sex, and relationships when you come from a world that told you those topics were off-limits. But now, I see how powerful it is to have these conversations out loud, all while giving others a platform to come on and reclaim that same power.
I wouldn’t trade the road bumps, though. They’ve made me confident in my voice and helped me build a platform where other people feel safe to do the same.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So college wasn’t an option for me because it simply wasn’t allowed in the cult I grew up in. When I escaped in 2017 at 22, I was terrified that I’d missed my shot at a real creative career. I thought it was too late.
But in 2020, while I was laid off from a call center job, I decided I was going to rewrite my story. I started taking online classes, learning everything I could about podcasting, social media, and creative storytelling. After a few internships, I started building confidence in my vision. I got my first paid client at the end of 2020, and by 2021, I was able to quit my job and start my own creative consulting firm, which I still run today!
Working with local Cincinnati businesses gave me the space to experiment and grow creatively, and it also sparked the idea for my podcast. Every project and collaboration taught me something new about storytelling and connection, which is EXACTLY what Sex and the Cincy is built on.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Our city is so collaborative and full of energy! Cincinnati is always ready to welcome new businesses and creatives, and that sense of community is what makes it feel like home. In my early 20s, I really connected with the local music scene here, and it made me fall in love with this city. The talent we have, whether it’s in music, art, food, or fashion, constantly blows me away.
If I had to pick something I like least, it’s that sometimes our city doesn’t realize just how special it is. There’s so much creativity and culture here, and I think we could celebrate it even louder. But that’s also what makes being part of the creative scene here so fun… It’s a hidden gem that, unless you really dive in to experience this city, you might just miss it.
