Check Out Kristina Conrad’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Conrad

Hi Kristina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got started in the event industry after being laid off from my full-time job at Microsoft one year ago. Having planned weddings and social gatherings both within my career and on the side, I decided to turn this experience into a business. With the knowledge of severance, I gave myself three months to turn my passion into a profession. Last year, I assisted in planning and coordinating 12 weddings and am on track to double that number in 2024.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my biggest struggles along the way was transitioning from a stable job at Microsoft to starting my own business. The uncertainty of whether my passion for event planning could turn into a successful profession was daunting. Initially, managing the financial aspects and securing enough clients to sustain the business was challenging. Balancing multiple roles, from marketing to client communication and event execution, often felt overwhelming. Additionally, building a reputation and gaining trust in a competitive industry required a lot of perseverance and dedication. Despite these challenges, the journey has been incredibly rewarding, and seeing my business grow has made all the struggles worthwhile.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

My background in planning social gatherings, combined with my passion for photography, allows me to capture both the planned and spontaneous moments beautifully.

I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients and the trust they place in me to bring their dreams to reality. The satisfaction and joy on their faces when everything comes together perfectly is the most rewarding part of my job.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about Columbus is the sense of community and the beautiful venues it offers for weddings and events. The blend of historical charm and modern amenities provides a unique backdrop that makes every event feel special. The supportive network of local vendors and the enthusiasm of the people here make planning events a joy. Plus, the variety of parks, scenic spots, and vibrant neighborhoods offer endless possibilities for creative and memorable wedding settings.

What I like least about Columbus is probably the unpredictable weather. It can be challenging to plan outdoor events with the constant changes, and sometimes it requires a lot of last-minute adjustments to ensure everything goes smoothly. Despite this, I always have backup plans in place and work closely with my clients to make sure their day is perfect, rain or shine.
