Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Volz.
Hi Kate, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2008, I had a cousin who was getting married, and she asked if I would help her design the invitations. I don’t have a degree in design, but I’m an artistic soul with a great eye, so I told her I’d be happy to do that for her. It was a simple design, with purple flowers and cut-out detail in the corner, but that simple design gave me my start. The following year, my sister was married, my best friend and my best friend’s sister were married, and I designed invitations for all of them. I attended my first bridal show in 2010 and never looked back. Throughout the years, I have designed everything from an aviation-themed invitation to coastal and even Star Wars! 2024 is a year of shifting my focus and honing in on my design style, which I describe as clean and classic with a bit of whimsy. When working with me, my clients receive a white glove experience, meaning that I design and print the stationery suite and fully assemble, stamp, and mail them. The most my client has to do is track down addresses for their mailing list.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been very fortunate that throughout my learning to navigate my own business, I’ve had an incredible partner in my husband, Chase, who can support our family. I certainly haven’t had the stress I could have had were I trying to make my business a career without him. Because he is such a great provider for our family, I have been able to focus on my clients, their experience working with me, and investing in my business to become even better.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create bespoke wedding stationery suites—anything from save the dates to invitations to “day of” items and even holiday cards. I specialize in creating custom designs with my clients that they can proudly send to their friends and family. I’m known for my clean, classic style. My white glove service sets me apart from others in my industry. My pricing packages include the design, printing, assembly, stamping, and mailing. I hand deliver all invitations to my local post office, where I know all the staff by name. I am truly so proud that I take all the stress off of my clients by addressing and assembling all the envelopes, allowing my clients to focus on the many other aspects of planning their wedding day. My white glove service extends to all stationery products, not wedding invitations. Typically, we will start with a save-the-date design and then move on to the main invitations. Next, we’ll design the “day of” items, then thank you cards, and finally, I offer to create their first holiday card and mail that out for them.
How do you define success?
For me, success is measured by the happiness of my clients. The words of appreciation they express to me after seeing their wedding invitation for the first time still make me smile every time.
Pricing:
- My minimum for wedding invitations is $1,000, and my average client investment is $2,500. All pricing is customized based on each client and their specific desires.
