Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasey Moore.
Hi Kasey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
About a year ago I started making gift boxes to sell on Etsy and those gift boxes included candles. Once I started making candles I fell in love with the process and shifted my entire focus to candles. Over the next couple months I studied candle making, perfected my process, and by the fall, my sales started taking off. During the holiday season, I was selling candles faster than I could make them, and that’s when I realized I could turn this into a full time business. By the end of January I was able to quit my full time sales job and focus on candle making full time. Since then, I’ve added a few new products to my line and have been a vendor at art & craft shows every other weekend. Last week, I signed the lease on my very first store front, located in old Milford, and plan to open my store by the end of May / early June.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every path will have its ups and downs, and mine is no different! The amount of times that I have doubted myself over the past 6 months is astronomical, but something in the back of my mind tells me to keep going. In the beginning, the hardest part for me was perfecting my candle making process to where I was confident in the candles I was selling. Next, I had to find my target market but kept hitting dead ends where I was selling. Once I found the right market, I was full steam ahead. Right now, I am in the midst of a beautiful chaotic whirlwind as I prepare to open my store front, it’s challenging but I know it will be rewarding. There will always be bumps along the way, but each obstacle I overcome pushes me forward to a new level of success.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in candles, but I also make wax melts, soap, body & room sprays, fragrance rollers, lip balm, car air fresheners, and hopefully more to come! I am most proud of my candles and the fact that I have been able to turn a passion into a career.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The characteristics that are most important to my success are my perseverance and determination. I am a pretty stubborn person, so I am not going to go down without a fight.
