Check Out Kadin Mcelwain’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kadin Mcelwain

Kadin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was diagnosed with autism when I was two years old. Starting with the very doctor who diagnosed me, people questioned my capabilities due to the social stigmas surrounding autism. But thanks to a very supportive set of parents, I proved those naysayers wrong. Now, I’m a junior in college with four consecutive dean’s lists and an advocate for autism awareness.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It honestly hasn’t been. I think that applies to anyone starting a mission, but it can be especially hard when you’re trying to bring attention to a cause. Some of the struggles with my advocacy work have been ignorance and some blowback, as people are scared of what they don’t know. But I have always been a stubborn guy. I never give up until I get the success I want for myself and my cause.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I advocate for autism awareness across various platforms. It started with a class project in 2022, where my group and I raised over $1,000 for the Autism Society of America. From there, my mission grew into something bigger. I’ve appeared on several media platforms to advocate for my cause, talked with politicians, and planned fundraisers and events to support various autism organizations. In fact, I have one coming up in November with a company called Soldier Girl Coffee.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Keep spreading positivity and working hard. You are amazing as you are. If people can’t see that, don’t give them the time of day.
