Check Out Julie Stone’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Stone.

Julie Stone

Hi Julie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My journey began over 20 years ago, when I was in my early thirties, with Jazzercise. This is where I caught the fitness bug and went from student to teacher. Through the years, I have taught many forms of fitness, ranging from Jazzercize to HIIT, Zumba, Bootcamp, and Spin. You name it, I have taught it. Then, one day, a fellow teacher asked me to take her Yoga class; I was skeptical as, at that time, I was strictly a cardio girl and thought yoga was not for me. Well, I was wrong. One class, and I was hooked, and the next thing I knew, I was certified and teaching. That was in 2001. Since then, my teaching has taken many shifts and turns; it has grown from cardio-based, power yoga to music-based, music-based flow yoga to what it is now: slow, intense, nervous system-based yoga. Throughout this journey, I taught in gyms and other studios, but as my passion grew, so did my desire to have a studio where I could teach the style of yoga that is so very needed in today’s society. This sets Purple Lotus Yoga apart from others; we don’t teach hot or power yoga, and everything is fine with those styles if that is what you are looking for. I just saw a need for slower, more gentle offerings. Our lives and society are fast-paced, and we are continually inundated with tech and other forms of stimulation; I wanted to create a space where there is no hurry, and the outside world can slip away for an hour or so. We truly mean it when we say Purple Lotus is a Safe, Supportive Community with No Judgement and no Competition.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It has not been smooth at all. It has been challenging to convince people to slow down and not constantly chase sweat. People, including myself, at one time, think if they can’t slow down, they need to be continually on the go. The trouble with that mindset is that you never give your nervous system a break; you never give your mind a break, leading to overwhelm and burnout.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in slow, gentle, and firm yoga and am known for my voice. Every class I teach is concluded with 10 minutes of guided relaxation. I am so proud of the studio and its cultivated community; you won’t find a more welcoming group of human beings. All of the above is what sets us apart. We are just that good!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
