Check Out Jonathan Fields’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Fields.

Jonathan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My desire for music began at church in Zanesville, Oh. When I was a child, I practiced by playing the pews, couches, and all the pots and pans I could find until my parents recognized my relentless passion for drums and bought my first full-size drum set. At the age of 9 years old, I ended up moving to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for a short time and then relocated to Cleveland Oh. Cleveland is where music really became my focus. While studying mentors and amazing musicians/artists, in Ohio and around the world, over time I practiced and built my equipment up. I started playing drums professionally at the age of 16 receiving calls to play for events/churches/venues in and out of Ohio. After playing with a Gospel/Jazz group, Present Day featuring Sean Jones, at Cleveland’s Tri-C Jazz Fest accompanied by the youth jazz choir of Cleveland School of the Arts I decided to tour abroad. Throughout my overseas touring, I emerged as a reliable musician, which led to me becoming the first youngest MD (musical director) leader in the company. Returning to the states in 2014, I began to engage in teaching children how to play drums. I urge all younger musicians to be organic and stay true to the music. After a short time being home my life changed again after joining “Red Hands” an amazing stellar nominated inspirational group who have touched many lives throughout the world with their music. I went on to complete two NBC TV Seasons of Songland working alongside Ryann Tedder, Shane Mcanally, and Ester Dean. Shortly after Season 2 ended I went on to play on the main Coachella stage in 2019 with Grammy winning artist Khalid ft. John Mayer, MarshMello, and Normani. When asked about my success, I give all credit to God and the people he has placed in my life. I believe that opportunities come from God and with faith, hard work, and patience anything is possible!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all, but I don’t mind the lessons learned throughout the process. I’ve learned how to focus on balance and working under pressure. I realized most of the bumps in the road lead to me learning new attributes.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a professional drummer/artist and I specialize in drum tones, electronics, and sounds. I’m most proud of the fact that through music I’ve seen most of the world by the age of 24 years old. I’m also extremely proud of being able to work with my family, my wife Andrea, and our 3 kids getting booked for various shoots for magazines, stores, or commercials.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I love collecting design ideas from hotels or buildings around the world and creating this super dream home in my mind.
