Check Out Jill Patel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Patel.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started dental school in 2017 and loved taking pictures of the fun foods I would eat around Philadelphia. One of my best friends inspired me to start my own Instagram account for my foodie pics I had collected over my first year, as she has her own IG for all her desserts she bakes and eats. In 2018, I started my Instagram account as @philly_eats_ and would post randomly, not really thinking much of it. Once I graduated dental school, I moved out of Philadelphia and knew I had to change my Instagram name, which is how I became jp_eats_.

My foodie account has become a hobby of mine- as a way of documenting my life stories through food as well as a way of documenting my love for food and for local stops. This past year, I had a lot more time to travel and focus on my Instagram account since I didn’t have to worry about studying anymore. So, I spent some of that free time networking with some amazing foodies and expanding my account to showcase all the great foods I had eaten around the US. By posting all the foodie locations I have been to, I have made so many more friends from all over America and even internationally through connections! I really love being able to interact with other foodies and growing with them; everyone is so supportive and fun to get to know! Cleveland has been a hotspot for my foodie posts because one of my best friends lives there, and it’s been really great connecting with so many other Ohio foodies on Instagram and getting ideas of the next spots for me to eat at with her.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I definitely feel that you need to post quite often to keep engagement up so that your Instagram account is seen better. For me, I have ups and downs with posting depending on how much time I have and how much time I want to dedicate to Instagram. I hope I can be more well-known in the Instagram world, and am working towards it with every post I make!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time general dentist and a part-time foodie!!! I am certified also in botox and dermal fillers, which is limited to facial treatments under my dental license. Not many general dentists perform treatments for botox and dermal fillers, which makes me proud to say that I can do so for my patients.

I am very proud of my career in general. People don’t realize how intense dentistry is and how mentally and physically exhausting it can be. I am proud to be a dentist and to have worked through covid, apart from the first 3 months of quarantine.

I love being able to get away from dentistry every day by working on being a foodie for fun!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Does my apple watch app count? In all seriousness, my apple watch really keeps me on my feet to make sure I am aware of timing, to see important notifications, and to receive important calls at work. I don’t usually have my phone on me, so my watch makes sure that I am on schedule and get things done overall. It also makes sure that I complete my fitness goals, which is important to me in general, but also because strengthening your muscles as a dentist is very important.

I love reading. It gives me a great escape from my everyday tasks and gives me time to relax after a long day or a long week. The love genre and adventure genre are my favorites!
