Check Out Jessica Fetter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Fetter

Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I consider this chapter to start in 2020. Like a lot of people, covid had a big impact on my mental health, and after working in a public service job for 8 years, I quit because my anxiety was deliberating after the shutdown. I started off working a Direct Sales job. After 2 years, I was in over my head and decided to open my own business. It was great, but then, in August 2022, I got sick with COVID-19. I was so sick for months, but during the height of it, I remember thinking, why am I spending my life not liking what I’m doing? That’s the moment I decided to pick up the paintbrush again. I got two good years of painting in before falling sick on July 1st, 2024. I was rushed to the hospital in case I was experiencing a stroke, which happened to be Guillian Barre Syndrome instead. This caused me to become almost fully paralyzed. I spent one month in the hospital getting IV treatments, then another month of in-patient therapy to relearn everything. 6 months of home therapy bring us to today still working on getting full function back in my arms.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all, as you might imagine, with everything that has happened this year. I have been righthanded all my life and that is my worst limb in recovery. Even typing this, I am now learning to use my left hand. I went from being a “normal” adult to not being able to move, or eat, or drink. I spent two months of feeding tubes. I am very lucky & grateful to the care teams I have had pushing me to get where I am. Also, all this was a very lonely journey while in the hospital. My husband is disabled and doesn’t drive so we both were alone during the beginning of my current health issues

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in watercolor & acrylic painting artwork. I am also writing a fantasy story on patreon.
I am most proud of getting my Art Therapy Practitioner Certificate. I am excited to launch Art therapy classes that start in February.
