Check Out James Hennings’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Hennings

Hi James, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been a football coach for about 12 years. I thought it was the best feeling in the world until I became a dad.

I was a tackle coach and didn’t really pay flag football that much attention. As my son grew older he loved football as much as I did. As I trained him he really began to excel at his age group. His mom really didn’t want him playing tackle at a young age, so flag was the only option.

So we both started gravitating towards flag football. After putting him in leagues where the coaches weren’t that great he pressured me into coaching in the flag leagues. Once I started coaching we were more competitive. It took us a while to make a name for ourselves. Eventually we became strong enough to start winning championships.

The kids I coach in tackle are in the inner city of Cleveland and do not have many resources available to them. Once they saw how much football I put my son in they wanted to play as well. Once we had a nice team I wanted to put my teams into some tournaments to see how good they really are. Unfortunately the tournaments are not always close to home. I also can’t put them in these tournaments on my own.

Now I am constantly looking for funding opportunities for my guys so we can compete in tournaments. They are good enough to compete so I just do what I can to put them in position to compete.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Initially my son’s mom not wanting him to play tackle football.

Now my obstacles are funding for my kids to put them in position to compete nationally. The kids with athletic abilities do not have the financial support to be put in position to compete nationally.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a youth football coach. I specialize in helping children realize their full potential.

I am known for maximizing my rosters and getting my kids to play like champions.

How do you think about luck?
Bad luck has played the biggest role in my career to this point. Coaching kids in the inner city where we don’t have the finances that we would like to have has made us miss out on opportunities.

There were tournaments we couldn’t make it to that we could’ve won.
