Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey as a self-taught photographer began in 2019, when I first fell in love with film photography using a vintage Polaroid from the 1970s. As a mom, my daughter is my muse, and she’s taught me the significance of capturing life’s fleeting moments. At 23, I’ve dedicated myself to building a photography business from the ground up, relying on word of mouth, promoting, and networking to drive my success. Overall, it’s an incredible feeling to have made a career out of my passion.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Photography isn’t for the faint of heart. The journey is filled with twists and turns, especially when the seasons change and the economy shifts. One month you’re on top of the world with a full calendar, and the next you’re wondering where your next client will come from. It’s a career that requires perseverance and adaptability.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
By day, I’m a registered medical assistant in a doctor’s office. By the weekend, I transform into a photographer, capturing life’s precious moments for families, couples, and soon-to-be parents. I take pride in my branding and the personalized experience I offer my clients, setting me apart by truly understanding their needs and bringing their vision to life.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
To all aspiring photographers, I recommend joining online communities and groups, learning from studio owners and seasoned photographers, and taking advantage of free or affordable photography classes at local camera shops. Additionally, attending styled shoots and connecting with other photographers can help grow your portfolio and professional network.
