Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Hite.
Emma, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been a very creative person, but never thought that I would actually end up going to school for art. It was always something I wanted to keep as a hobby, but never anything more. It wasn’t until I started looking at colleges in high school that I realized there was no other option for me- art was the only path I would feel fulfilled and successful in. I had also grown up always trying anything I could get my hands on. Whether that be painting, print making, sculpture, welding, etc etc. you name it- I did it. I have really ran with that as well now that I am in my third year in college. I have never focused on one medium, but rather I am making sure I am well rounded in multiple areas to keep myself well informed and competent when it comes to working on different projects.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Luckily for me, my family is very supportive of my adventures and has always encouraged me to pursue art as a career. On the other hand though, there is still a lot of pressure put on me by not only my family, but society, and myself as well. There is a constant question in the back of my mind that says “is this worth it? am I really going to school for art? are people really going to take something from what I put out there?” and I believe that is the biggest struggle. I will always be my number one supporter, but I will also be the first to ask if anything is ever really important. Although fine art isn’t necessarily hard on an academic stand, it is still very conceptual and people do expect harsh hitting themes for any art to actually be considered good. The hardest part of the major is expectations and how you can alter them to better reflect yourself. Getting to that point was difficult, but necessary.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known for taking somewhat serious topics and making them more fun and pleasing to digest as a viewer. Working in multiple mediums helps drive this further by allowing myself to use different materials to enhance certain topics I may be working with. Although I do work with multiple medias, I am specializing in printmaking, sculpture, and photography/ videography right now.
I am definitely known for always having stickers that I designed on me; whether I am handing them out or selling them. I love to see my designs all around the city and on my friends’ water bottles. I even have a few stickers of my face in London and other states where my friends have taken them. I try to come out with new designs every year so people can always have fresh art for cheap, and there is definitely some excitement around when I announce a new drop.
The piece that I am most proud of right now would be the music video I made in the summer of 2025 to the song “Seven or Eleven,” by The Hubbards. I filmed it while on Co-op and it turned out better than I ever could have imagined. I had the idea for a few years beforehand, but never had the means to actually shoot it. After the first day of shooting though, you could not get me to shut up about it. I could tell that the final product was going to be something I was proud of. I had made other videos before, but this was the first time I felt like the product was complete, coherent, and 100% mine. I still go back to watch it sometimes and all I think is, “wow. I actually did that.”
I like to think that my personality, as well as my multi media background sets me apart from other artists. I am a very confident person in myself and what I create. I know how to be humble, but I also will not downplay myself. I know that I make good art- I am not going to pretend like I don’t. There is a reason I am here and still getting into museums and shows. Minimizing my accomplishments helps no one. I believe this shows in my art too. I know that if I am proud of my work, other people will be more attracted to it.
