Today we’d like to introduce you to Connie Kaya.
Hi Connie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started dabbling in sewing flax linen items in 2019. My first project was reusable coffee filters which lead into bread and vegetable storage bags. My search for linen fabric landed me in heaven. I was buying different weights and colors of linen fabric. I started making dish towels and gifting them to family and friends, so I could receive feedback. My inventory of fabric was growing and this is when I decided to start my business, LocoLinen. I have been actively doing local vendor events for the last 4 years.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a slow road to be recognized in the market. Flax linen products are not common at craft shows. I have to educate most people on flax linen, so growing a customer base has been the most difficult part.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I sew flax linen material into items for your home and self. Dish towels, bento bags, throws and scarves are main staples of LocoLinen. Linen is a natural fabric that host properties that include anti bacterial/microbial, hypoallergenic, durable, absorbent, sustainable and compostable. I am proud to provide flax linen items at a fair price. My favorite part of this journey is educating customers on linen and seeing returning customers.
What matters most to you? Why?
I like providing a product that is not easily accessible to most shoppers. They can touch, see, and smell the linen. Yes linen smells like straw.
LocoLinen provides a personal shopping experience unlike shopping online.
