Today we’d like to introduce you to Collin Smith.
Hi Collin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started as a joke between me and my brother, Clinton. We started a band and made music on an old beat-up iPhone 4. After many trials and tribulations, we have managed to become a full-on band with 2 studio albums and many more on the way. I have created about 40 other bands that I am constantly making new music for and created my own record label.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We didn’t have a lot of money, so we had to use what we had around us, which made us more creative. All of my experiences were self-taught, from playing guitar to recording, mixing, distributing, and creating artwork. We are 100% independent.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the guitarist, bassist, percussionist, vocalist, producer, programmer, and mixing engineer of the band Blip, as well as many other bands. What sets me apart from other artists is I use no outside people in my art. I’m a self-taught musician and creator. I created a system where my art can be heard without being tainted by labels.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My bandmates Clinton Smith and Jacob Watson in Blip are the only people I work with in Blip. My dad and my older sister gave me lots of musical influences in my life at an early age.
