Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassidy Rivers.
Hi Cassidy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to the creative side of things. In high school, I studied Graphic Design and was fortunate to earn a scholarship to continue my education in college, where I went on to earn my degree in the field. After graduating, I realized photography and graphic design shared many of the same foundations! Storytelling, composition, light, and emotion. As my interest in photography grew, I began focusing on families and seniors. My son was three years old at the time and became a constant source of inspiration as I developed my style and built my portfolio.
As my work gained traction, referrals began to grow. I found myself photographing more and more families throughout the community. A turning point came when a wedding photographer invited me to join her as a second photographer for a wedding. From that very first wedding day, I was hooked. The emotion, energy, and privilege of documenting such meaningful moments resonated with me immediately.
What began as a passion for creativity has since grown into Cassidy Alane Photography. While I still love documenting families and life’s many milestones, weddings have become the heart of my business. Today, I have the honor of serving couples throughout Ohio (and beyond!), creating timeless, true-to-color imagery that allows them to relive one of the most important days of their lives for years to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think every business owner would tell you there are ups and downs, and photography is no different.
One of the biggest challenges of running a photography business is the uncertainty that comes with entrepreneurship. There are seasons where inquiries seem to arrive all at once, and other times where things are much quieter. Learning to trust the process and continue showing up consistently during those slower seasons has been one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned.
Another challenge is that photography is only one part of the job. While the wedding day is certainly the most visible aspect of what I do, much of my time is spent behind the scenes communicating with clients, planning timelines, editing galleries, managing contracts, marketing my business, and ensuring every detail is taken care of long before I ever pick up my camera.
That said, the rewarding moments far outweigh the challenges. I’ve built incredible friendships within the wedding industry. One of the most fulfilling parts of my job is watching couples move through different seasons of life. I may first meet them when they’re planning their wedding, then years later, I’m photographing maternity sessions, cake smashes, and family portraits! Being trusted to document those milestones is something I’ll never take for granted.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wedding and family photographer based in Southwest Ohio. While weddings are the heart of my business, I also photograph families, seniors, maternity sessions, and other milestone moments throughout the years.
My photography style is true-to-color, timeless, and genuine. I may incorporate a few current trends here and there, but my goal is always to create images that will feel just as meaningful twenty years from now as they do today. I want my clients to look back on their photographs and see authentic moments, real emotions, and memories that never go out of style.
What sets me apart is that I don’t simply show up with a camera. I believe a great client experience begins long before the wedding day or session itself. I enjoy helping couples plan timelines, prepare for their day, and think through the details so everything runs as smoothly as possible. When my clients feel prepared and relaxed, they’re able to be fully present in the moment, and that’s when the best photographs happen.
What I’m most proud of is building a business that allows me to do what I love every day. Being the owner and CEO of my own company is something I don’t take lightly. I’m also incredibly proud of the relationships I’ve built over the years. Many of my wedding couples return later for family portraits, maternity sessions, and other milestones, and there is no greater compliment than being trusted to document multiple chapters of someone’s story. Seeing familiar faces return year after year is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to approach networking with a mindset of community rather than competition. In an industry that can sometimes feel crowded, I’ve found that there is so much value in genuinely supporting one another.
For photographers specifically, joining local photography and wedding industry groups on social media can be incredibly valuable. Some of my favorite opportunities have come from connecting with other photographers, participating in styled shoots, and second shooting weddings. These are all incredible ways to gain experience while also building meaningful relationships with other creatives.
Some of the strongest connections I’ve made started very simply: by engaging with other photographers’ work, cheering them on, and starting conversations. Over time, those interactions often turn into friendships, referrals, and opportunities to work alongside people you respect and learn from.
What has worked best for me has been approaching networking with a mindset of community over competition. There is room for all of us to succeed, and I’ve found that the more I’ve invested in building authentic relationships, the more opportunities have naturally followed.
At the end of the day, I truly believe there is room for everyone to thrive. When you focus on collaboration, encouragement, and building authentic relationships, the right opportunities tend to follow naturally.
