Check Out B.B. Aspen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to B.B. Aspen.

Hi B.B., so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
B.B. Aspen is my pen name. But behind those letters is a woman who knows her worth, who is determined to remind and re-awaken self-worth, self-love and authenticity in everyone she encounters. As a full time ER nurse, mother of three wild daughters, hippie witch and world traveler, I have collected lore and lived through my own epic chapters. Writing has given me the opportunity to reach more hearts as well as expand my own light.
And now, I do so unabashed, and I encourage you to do the same because letting your weirdness and authentic self shine through gives others bravery to let their true selves shine. And that is what our world and collective humanity needs now, during these times of uncertainly and chaos.
I was born in good ol’ Ohio, raised in Michigan and attended nursing school abroad in the West Indies. There my love of travel, cultures, languages came to life as did my journey into preventative and holistic medicine. At the age of twelve I opted for vegetarianism and while living in the Caribbean I switched my lifestyle open to veganism. For my first year of nursing I was a cardiac nurse in Los Angeles. The following years I spent in critical float pools in San Francisco and Denver. As much as I learn about the body over that decade I learn about the soul. I became a wife, Reiki Master, Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, Yoga Teacher, knocked 24 countries off my bucket list and stepped into my power in motherhood.
For my three feral daughters. I became more unapologetic, more care-free, less shameful and extra open about my inclusivity.
How and why did I choose to become an independently published author?
Since the ripe age of toddler-hood I had been immersed in fantasy worlds of dress-up and living in aisles of bookstores as well as inside my head. I had reserved laptops and journals for the books and chapters I had written cluttered throughout my rooms at every stage of life. I have written a half dozen finished fantasy novels and have twice many that started.
As the assistant manager of the Covid Unit during the pandemic, my team and I placed well over one hundred people in body bags within the span of months. How did I cope? I escaped into the fictional realms I created where these flawed but fantastic characters took on heavy issues and magical wars and survived.
One of my smutty bookish neighbors was thrilled to read my word document despite me being absolutely terrified because no one had seen those pages…. ever. She is now my editor. And I owe the world to her for pushing me into my passions and running blindly into the amazing bookish community I have since discovered since moving to NE Ohio two years ago.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Challenges in the independent writing/self-publishing world are endless. From finding time to finding editors, books covers, formatting. From marketing your own books and content creation to traveling across the country to attend bookish events and support your growing community. To researching copyright laws, beta and ARC readers, to making pennies on the dollar in royalties from nearly ALL available companies.
The technical and legal stuff aside, I find time and motivation to be of the greatest obstacles I force myself conquer.

My plate is full. A blessing and a curse because I love trying new foods (activities) but I have no time to sit down at the table and eat (invest wholeheartedly).
Time is a challenge. Writing is a part-time passion that I invest hundreds of thousands of hours into that doesn’t pay the bills nor drive my kids to soccer games and swim practice. Yet. It doesn’t pay the bills YET. (I am constantly working on manifesting time and financial magic with my books.)
You have to make time, not find time for the things that matter. I work long 12 hours shifts in the ER but I wake up 2 hours before start my drive to move my body, meditate and write my books.
This is true for all aspects of ones life, relationships, schooling, creative outlets, fitness. Make time if it matters.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Realm Weaver Trilogy is my first published series. It is a why-choose fantasy romance series that completes late summer 2025 that will have you on an emotional rollercoaster with its plot twist, open door MMF-MFM spice and relatable characters. The main female lead is worthy–as we all are. She is bold, witty, grounded and full of feminine rage. The males that are woven into her lives are perfectly constructed examples of healthy masculinity. To support a woman by letting her rage and heal on her own terms, while healing nations and uncovering Eternal lies. Why-Choose romance allows all partners to explore all the various types of love available on the spectrum of human experience which is why I chose this particular series to publish first. Love is wild and inclusive and magical and unpredictable and reckless. Enjoy on Kindle Unlimited, Kindle, Paperback and Hardcovers available on Amazon as well as directly from this indie author!
I hand paint all the edges of my sign books and have non-AI character art available for my readers!
