Check Out Avery Rethage’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Rethage.

Hi Avery, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started cooking when I was younger, always with my parents. In tenth grade, I started going to a culinary technical school for three years where I competed in a bunch of competitions for culinary. Then I started college at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Punxsutawney, where currently I am still finishing out my education.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
With my education it has been a smooth road for me personally. With my personal life, it has been quite a struggle not living with my parents and making friends along the way. College has just introduced me to the adult life and it has been quite an adjustment.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am just starting off trying to figure out how to accomplish my goals. I have always been an artist, creating art as a side hobby along with cooking. With my culinary experience, I have been more passionate about the pastry/caking side of culinary because I feel like it allows me to combine both of my interests: art and cooking. What sets me apart from others I feel like is my positive attitude, if something is bothering me I will never let it be known in the this business and I feel like that is very important to have for such a hard industry like culinary arts or the restaurant field.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The way I am always willing to learn something new, my positive outlook I stated before, and my drive to always do better. I always want to learn something new because I believe learning as much information you can is so helpful for the future in any shape or form. Having a positive outlook is important to your success because if people around you see that you are positive they are more likely to follow along with that behavior, therefore creating a. positive environment and that is extremely important. Also I always want to do better, I want to be the person in the room that sticks outs for their knowledge and skill so I always try my hardest in this field to do the best.
