Check Out Austin Wallace’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Wallace

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story… so, I started doing Photography in 2018. I bought my first camera in February of that year. What inspired me was the knack for capturing moments and beautiful scenery when I traveled. People would compliment my pictures. “You have a good eye!” I heard that several times and I remembered how much I liked art growing up. I loved to draw and take pictures. I eventually told myself to take it seriously and buy a camera. I felt like I could teach myself the basics and go from there.

Fast forward, I bought a camera, started an Instagram page, and challenged myself daily. I would shoot outside, listen to YouTube tutorials, observe experienced photographers, and repeat. I knew what my style was and what I loved to shoot. I learned terminology and small details to elevate my skills. I focused on things like lighting, lens differences, editing, etc.

Six years later, I’ve done several art shows in Columbus, including two at the Columbus Arts Museum. I’ve also done a show in Cleveland (House of Blues) and Cincinnati. Some of my work has been purchased by people throughout the county. Hopefully there will be some sold in other countries soon!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been pretty smooth for me. I’ve definitely had some bumps in the road, but I elevated my skills at a good pace and became a figure in the art community. One of the obstacles I’ve faced is losing a lot of pictures, via camera damage or laptop issues. I’m sure I’m not the only one. That was and is very deflating. But the beauty of photography is that you can shoot, whenever you want. So I just learned to be more aware and preventative. but I understand that losing work is apart of the game sometimes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Family Specialist for Franklin County. I work with the juvenile population and their families, assisting them with economic growth and behavioral changes. I also analyze policies to determine what systemic barriers need to be addressed and improved for equitable purposes.

I’m also a football coach/trainer. I’m mostly known for being a mentor and coach for youth.

I’m most proud of the transitions I continue to make throughout my life. I can’t really single out a moment. I’ve been somewhat of a “do-it-all” person since I was a kid. I like to explore. I know I have natural gifts and I choose to cultivate them. I never get tired of learning new things and taking on challenges. I even tried my hand at acting in 2018. Now I’m on TV every Saturday in a film called, TOXIC [Written and produced by Tiffany Campbell].

Overall, what sets me apart from others is my determination to be; do, feel, express.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m open to meeting new artists. I love shooting with groups and being around innovative, fun people. Support is always welcome and reciprocated!

I do a Halloween project that’s based around mental health every year. If anyone would like to model and/or shoot with me that is welcome as well.
