Today we’d like to introduce you to April Brehob.
Hi April, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started Forgotten & Found in 2010 by creating home good and accessories out of found and reclaimed objects. I took these creations to local craft shows and markets. After a few years of creating and hauling my wears all over town, I decided to put Forgotten & Found to rest. In the winter of 2020, I got the creative bug after creating candles for my family for Christmas presents and wanted to see if I could create some items that people would be interested in buying. I created my first candle collection of a selection of mismatched vintage wine glasses. They were one of a kind and all-natural. Shortly after Covid 19 hit, and all my ideas for launching my small business were put on hold. I quickly shifted and started listing my candles on Instagram, and I was blown away by the support from my local community. My sales were steady, and it helped that many people were home and looking for tiny ways to make their home a sanctuary, and Forgotten & Found fit the bill for them!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with all things, there have been some bumps in the road. During 2020-2021, Forgotten & Found was affected by supply chain issues and, at times were could not get ahold the wax that we use and what makes our candles so easy to clean out after they are done.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Forgotten and found was built to create and express my creative side is a major way to keep my anxiety in check. Keeping my hands busy, giving me somethings to focus on, as well as connecting with others are all part of the ways I flex my mental health muscle.
Creating Forgotten & Found has given me a consistent avenue to fill my creative drive as well as turned down the volume on my worries.
-Forgotten and Found was built after I helped host a party and got to thrift with a friend, and we created the most amazing candle-lit dinner! The thrill of finding something that someone discarded and making it into something totally new and beautiful never gets old!
-A few years ago, I started a journey to reduce my waste and rethink my habits to help preserve this beautiful place we call home. So, when creating Forgotten & Found, I knew I wanted to make sure that this brand would always look through a lens of making sustainable choices.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Thinking outside the box and being able to find beauty in unexpected places
