Check Out Alexa Burton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Burton.

Hi Alexa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I owned a few Myspace layout websites from 2006-2010. My websites were very successful! That is when I fell in love with representing myself on the internet! I have bipolar disorder, and it really started getting deep in 2010. I had to be admitted to hospital(s) so many times for my mental health. I let my websites expire and gave up the interest due to my circumstances. I finally got on medicine that really helped me, and I was finally stable! After I did, I fell back into my interest of doing something worthwhile to work online. The social media game had COMPLETELY changed by that time! Even a lot more advanced laptops, phones, etc. Although a bit resistant, I went with it and started using Instagram! I found it really fun and enjoyed it in my free time. I was looking around one day and came across micro-influencers. I was so in love with how these ladies posted beauty and fashion products, making it look amazing while being authentic. I followed some Instagram bloggers, and somewhat of a snap decision, I decided I want to be a Beauty and Fashion blogger! I was so clueless on how to do all of the blog/influencer work and also SO camera shy, I didn’t feel comfortable throwing myself out there authentically. As time went on, I kept learning, growing, and taking videos and pictures of myself a lot more to the point now I have zero problems with it. I also started showing up more authentically and not always trying to look “put together” and “perfect” in photos and videos. I now enjoy an amazing community of women who work as influencers/bloggers as well, a loving and supportive following that grows every day, and just feeling comfortable being ME and running my little piece of the internet!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggle from time to time with my bipolar disorder, except I always face it head-on when I get depressed at times and don’t even want to get out of bed! I have learned wonderful coping skills to help me through that. I was so self-conscious of my body and face on camera. I literally avoided bright lights on camera and refused to post my body as a curvy woman, although I do now with no problem! I finally changed my niche from Beauty and Fashion to Beauty and CURVE Fashion which was a great step for me to overcome myself consciousness. I rock my curves now on and off camera, and after I let go my fear of being rejected or judged, my confidence flourished!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make posts of reviews on products I’ve been sent as an influencer/blogger on Instagram. You may wonder what does that entail? My personal process is testing the product to make sure I post products I really stand by and love! Once I approve a product, I take very particular photos and videos of said product where everything has to look very pleasing to the eye. From the lighting to the aesthetic of the product and photoshoot, the angles, the background, etc., etc. I prefer to have myself in photos and videos as well. That adds on more work on the shoot, except so worth it! I love it all. I love what I do!

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to grow and learn more and to become a full-time digital content creator! I plan to go to school for marketing as I want to reach my full potential as a content creator! I love to learn, and I will do and learn all I have to make my plans and goals a reality! In my personal life, I have a fiancé who is just incredible! I can’t wait to marry him and support all his goals and dreams as he does for mine.
