Check Out Adam Michael’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Michael.

Hi Adam, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always loved film. It was my outlet and escape as a child. My passion turned into a hobby one day when I told my wife (Em) that I wanted to see more “real stories” being told in film. She very calmly looked at me and said, “why don’t you make one then?”

It was a lightbulb that was instantly turned on and has not gone out since. I wrote my first film, Breakfast, two months later in late 2019. I was proud of the silent film, which focuses on a couple dealing with a traumatic reveal as they eat at their favorite restaurant, but didn’t know how “good” it was.

With Em’s support, I submitted it to a local Cleveland film festival and won Best Micro Film. The day after that I started furiously writing out every idea, I had an eventually came up with 17 scripts.

In the two and a half years since my hobby has turned into a career as I quit my corporate job and have made 10 films; while currently in pre-production for 5 other projects.

I am also actively trying to start a film festival in the Youngstown area.

It has taken a long time to say this but I am a filmmaker. It is who I am and what I do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finances are always a struggle. I started my production company, Candid Life Entertainment, and have had some incredible support by amazing people in my life. However, getting serious financial backing would change a lot of things and make the road a little smoother.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a filmmaker. I am constantly writing, creating, collaborating, producing, editing, directing and trying my best to create the best team possible. I am continuously growing and working hard to do the best I can. There is no ceiling with this or end game, gaining all knowledge of the filmmaking word is not possible and I love that!

I am very proud that I pay my actors. It is very important to me that my actors feel valued and respected.

I am also making my first documentary about David Vosburgh who was a performer on Broadway, an Opera singer, and a director of stage and community Theater for over 40 years.
I will be making my second follow-up documentary about Susan Davenny-Wyner who was a perfect pitch opera singer until she was hit by a car and lost her ability to sing. She then became a world-renowned conductor and just recently regained the ability to speak clearly again through an experimental surgery last year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t really believe in luck. You make your own path and then walk down that path. Whatever happens, is either because you did something right or wrong or just circumstance.
