An Inspired Chat with Weldon Brown

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Weldon Brown . Check out our conversation below.

Weldon, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Spur of the moment visit to a gallery/ museum where I met the owner and got a one man tour of the gallery just because I showed up expecting it would be open for visitation. There were no regular hours posted, but the owner happened to be outside getting mail and invited me in for one of the most amazing tours I have in quite a while. He was gracious, generous and had a matching stories for every artifact photo, costume and stature. My wife and I met him two weeks later, and Mr.Darl told her that we were friends.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a self taught baker/visual artist who’s been painting seriously for about four years now. I hosted my second solo Art exhibition on September 20 th at the same location of my first solo show in August 2024. I’ve been asking to work with young children the last two years and have been invited to host a paint and sip the beginner of the new year.. I’m always reading and researching all things art. That is in between the gym and the kitchen,I can’t seem to stay out of the kitchen. Especially during the holidays. I’m always looking to create something never seen.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I realized that I didn’t need credentials or validation to create what I was feeling on the inside and wanted to put it on canvas. And to be able to do it without having to constantly explain myself as to why I created what I was feel. I now invite others to make a make on paper or whatever is handy because it is a necessary thing to let the world know you were here, and that your make matters also. I believe painting is therapeutic and healing for all who dare to pick up a pen, marker or paint brush.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
When I realized how comforting painting is and I don’t need a crowd or special materials to get started. I also realized the power it has to connect people together. Just as powerful as potlucks and movie night. It’s spontaneous and relatively low cost to make lasting memories.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
It’s alright to show up as yourself and not be ashamed of who you are. Things don’t make others better than you that offer only reveal more quickly who the next person really is. Fact is people hide behind noise, credentials, positions and power all the time. I remind them that none of that matters in the shadows. Life is so much more than noise and distractions.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I got old too soon and smart too late, but I didn’t stop learning and sharing what I learned with others. Especially my family and friends
