We recently had the chance to connect with Troy Reaves and have shared our conversation below.
Troy, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Accountability. All of us are afraid to look in the mirror and admit that their own choices and actions lead to the consequences that they are paying for. It’s something I had to learn myself as well.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hailing from the greatest city that the creator has ever seen. Troy Reaves better known as DJPrettyBoyTroy is from Cleveland, Ohio, a city uncertain of a lot of things but it’s home to a lot of talent and dreams.
I’m a thespian, which means I do bit of everything ranging from Acting, Modeling, Teaching, Rapper, Producer, Content Creator, Entrepreneur and DJ.
I’m ultimately a DJ that’s my first profession and passion. My business is on Google where you can find me at: DJPrettyBoyTroy Entertainment Services, LLC.
I’ve been a DJ for 15 yrs, starting at my Alma Mater, Wilberforce University in 2010. DJ’n has taken me places I wouldn’t have imagined but I’m glad it all happened.
I’m also a Fall 2022 Initiate of the Newport-Covington Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Few years ago, looking to find myself. I came across a book that reminded myself who I truly am in return gave me that power I was searching for.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
That it’s all mental, your thoughts can become your reality. Life isn’t as difficult as you think, enjoy nature, take a walk, get organic fruit to eat. Last but not least READ!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
Religion, nothing more, nothing less. Religion made us believe when in return it deceives.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
The push for self-resiliency. That when one door closes, another door will open eventually. Keep working and stop complaining.
