Hi Shcarra, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I would say I lose track of time is when I listen to music. Music is something for me that I can get lost there for hours and while I can also get distracted it also grounds me. The creativity in music allows me to balance my creativity at times when hit a creative block. I like to listen to many different genres of music as it allows me to think outside of my creative boundaries.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The Creative Leo, Shacrra Benn is a visionary creative entrepreneur, branding strategist, and community advocate with over 16 years of experience helping businesses and creators tell their stories through powerful design and marketing. As the Founder and CEO of Creative Leo Designs, Shcarra has partnered with entrepreneurs, corporations, and organizations to elevate their brands, expand their reach, and increase their impact in competitive markets.
Her expertise lies in branding, digital strategy, and creative storytelling skills that are essential for today’s creators and entrepreneurs navigating the fast-changing social media landscape. Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself is the one I have with my mother. She taught me what true strength looks like, not just the kind that shows up in big moments, but the quiet, steady strength that carries you through every challenge. Watching her face life with resilience, grace, and faith showed me that no matter what comes my way, giving up is never an option. Her example shaped the way I lead, create, and dream. She reminds me that even in hard times, I have the power to rise, create beauty, and keep moving forward with prayer and faith. My parents and family are my biggest cheerleaders, and I know without their love and encouragement I would not be who I am. I love you all so much, Carra
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
This is something I have faced many times. There was a time when I almost gave up. As a creative entrepreneur, the journey isn’t always as beautiful as the art we create. There were seasons when I poured everything into my vision, but the results didn’t come as quickly as I hoped. I was balancing purpose, passion, and the pressure of building something from the ground up, and it became overwhelming. But then I remembered what my mother taught me, which is to be strong, to keep faith, and to never give up. That reminder shifted everything. I realized that even the challenges were part of the creative process — shaping not just my business, but me as a woman and visionary. Instead of quitting, I chose to evolve, and that decision reignited my purpose and strengthened the mission behind Creative Leo Designs. Always remember when creating you can always get a new piece of paper and start over.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is resilience. Growing up as a young black girl, I witnessed firsthand how strength, determination, and the ability to keep going despite obstacles define our community. Resilience isn’t just about surviving, it’s about thriving, creating opportunities, and lifting others as you rise. In my life and work with Creative Leo Designs, I honor this value by pushing through challenges, supporting others in their growth, and celebrating the power and brilliance of our stories. It’s the foundation of how I lead, create, and live each day. My legacy would not be possible without the legacy of my ancestors. For this I must honor them for all that has been done before to give me the opportunity to even be able to learn, have a voice and a space to be me. Culture is an amazing component that I feel we all must protect in order to keep things grounded.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do for sure. For a long time, I tried to follow what I was “supposed” to do or what others expected of me, the safe paths, the conventional choices. But I realized my true purpose lies in creating, designing, and building spaces that celebrate culture, creativity, and community. Creative Leo Designs allows me to live fully in my gifts while also making an impact, inspiring others, and empowering the next generation of creatives and entrepreneurs. This work feels like more than a career, it’s my purpose, and I feel aligned with who I was always meant to be. My steps are ordered, and I am happy to walk this path.
