An Inspired Chat with Kay

Kay shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Kay , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
being in nature and creating new artwork

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kay, I also call myself “Kay The Artist”, and i’m a professional painter and designer from Columbus OH. I work on commercial and Residential projects independently and am looking into doing public murals and art events in my native town and across other states to display my artistic side as well. I do custom and commissioned works of art and sell them as well. I plan to use the money to invest into purchasing supplies and creating spaces to host artistic events with the purpose of promoting mental health awareness. Creating new works of art from my personal POV is therapeutic and i have always wanted to introduce it to more people as a means of release and serenity. The slogan for my custom arts company “KD Custom Artistry& Design, LLC” is “where life is art & art is life”, because art has always been significant in my life and i’ve chosen to use my resources and artistic interests to share with others and allow others to find peace in life through art as well. Currently I am working on small works of art to add to the inventory for future sale.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My grandparents definitely did. They were the most hands on people with everyday life that i’ve ever met. They wouldv’e had a farm if they had the property to do it, but they definitely grew crops and built everything i had around me.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. It wouldve kept me wise at an age when i was so naive and gullible and ready for the world.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My morals, principles, respect and values. The things my grandparents taught me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
Being myself in all environments. There are so many sides of me they all fit in somewhere. Theres places my intellect is welcome, places my charisma is welcome, places my humor is welcome, my artistry, my focus, my rebellious…theres places all those sides have homes. I am very self aware so i find times where being introverted is comfortable as well as times where being extroverted is comfortable, but am always authentically myself.
