An Inspired Chat with Janita Michelle of East Side

Janita Michelle shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Janita, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think many people struggle with healing because there’s no clear roadmap — it’s not a one-size-fits-all journey. Sticking with familiar patterns feels easier, even if they’re not helping us grow. A lot of us also have a hard time asking for help. But I’m learning that when you have a solid, supportive circle around you, reaching out doesn’t feel as heavy. It actually becomes a part of the healing.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the owner and energy behind The Libra Alchemy, a healing experience brand rooted in intention and transformation. As a Reiki practitioner, I channel my gift through sound healing—creating sacred spaces for restoration, release, and reconnection. I offer tools, practices, and support for every step of your healing journey. From one-on-one virtual sound healing to group retreats and healing circles, everything I offer is grounded in community, transparency, and growth.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Being a people pleaser did serve its purpose—kept the peace, avoided drama, and made life a little smoother… or so I thought. I just didn’t want the smoke! But lately, I’ve been unlearning the “yes by default” habit and leaning into the power of no. It’s not always graceful, but baby, it’s growth.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
According to Buddhist beliefs, suffering is constant—and honestly, they were so real for that. Sometimes success doesn’t come wrapped in glitter and good timing, but I’ve learned to let the struggle sharpen me. These days, I use my suffering as jet fuel. If life’s gonna throw plot twists, I might as well make it part of the comeback story.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The public me? She’s a little more reserved, a lil’ more “let me feel the room first.” I’ve come to realize that I am my brand—there’s no separating the woman from the gift. So every time I show up, it’s layered: a sprinkle of shyness, a dash of energy work, and a whole lot of intentional magic.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want to be remembered as a well-versed spiritual teacher whose presence inspired growth, healing, and authenticity in others. I hope my life is a testament to living with compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to uplifting the human spirit.
